Are you an Indian national stuck in the UAE with an expired/expiring driving license? This recent ruling is in your favor!
Now Indians living in the UAE can get their driver’s license ( IDP – International Driving Permit) renewed on foreign soil itself. The Gulf News on 17th February announced that the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi will now be able to aid in the renewing and re-issuing process of the driving license of all Indian nationals living there.
Follow the below step to apply for renewal of your expired Indian International Driver’s Permit in the UAE.
Visit the Indian Embassy in the UAE:
The first thing on your list should be a visit to the Indian Embassy located in Abu Dhabi. Then all you have to do is find out the current working hours of the embassy and pay a quick visit during the said available hours. You can visit between 08:30 am to 12:30 pm on all working days from Sunday to Thursday. This would ensure that there is someone ready to assist you with your requirements.
Important Documents To Carry:
On this trip to the embassy, keep in mind that you must carry some documents which will definitely come in handy, like your passport, your old driving license, as well as your IDP number.
Important Form to Fill:
After you submit the above-mentioned documents, ideally, the authorities will ask you to fill Miscellaneous Consular Service Form (EAP-II).
After filling the Miscellaneous Consular Service Form, you will have to submit the form at IVS Global in Dubai for processing the IDP renewal request.
Cost of Renewal of International Driving Permit issued by India in the UAE.
There are certain other costs that the applicants must be mindful of. The applicants will have to submit AED 40(Consular Service Fee) and AED 8(for Indian Community Welfare Fund).
One thing to note is that the embassy will only submit the IDP renewal form; any other issues will have to be taken care of by MoRTH(Ministry of Road Transport and Highway) in India. MoRTH will then send over the renewed IDP to UAE once all the formalities are complete.
However, you can only get your IDP or International Driving Permit from MoRTH, India. Any Indian, who may have a driving license in India, can’t drive in the UAE without a valid IDP. Once done with all the formalities, this international license will come in handy in most countries. Moreover, this piece of documentation gives the holder the right to apply for easily available jobs like which requires driving as a skillset. Now you don’t have to fret about your expired license. Just follow the above guidelines and get it renewed.
