The Renault Clio has always had the reputation of being a fun car to drive, scoring reasonably well on reliability and, in most versions, getting a good rap for comfort and trim.

While the 3-door sports editions – the RS Clio and its offspring – dominated sales between 2001 – 2008 in Australia, from 2013 – 2019 various iterations of the 5-door hatch (both RS and standard) have been the big sellers. The RS offers you a hot hatch with a 1.6-litre, turbocharged engine; standard Clios come in 9-litre manual and 1.2-litre auto versions.

Overall, the Clio’s handling is sharp, even in the standard models, and is considered superb in the RS versions. Ride comfort is rated as very good for a car in the Supermini class.
