Over the years, the Prius has been redesigned (internally) to be roomier and have more luggage space that was once occupied by the very large onboard battery. It has, however, kept its unique exterior styling. The latest models are only available as 5-door liftbacks.
The Prius loves its centred instrument panel with its large and distinctive digital speedometer.
Both models are automatic and use a 1.8L VVT-i-engine. They have a great array of inbuilt safety features including pre-collision safety system PCS, pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane departure alert, seven airbags plus Apple play and wireless phone charging. The i-Tech has heated front seats.
A couple of things worth noting. The Prius - any model - is not designed to tow so can't be fitted with a towbar. And while the standard Prius has a skinny spare wheel (space saver) rated to 80km/h, the i-Tech has no spare wheel, just an onboard repair kit complete with compressed air canister.
These decisions mean there is more passenger room inside each vehicle and even more luggage space, with 297L in the Prius and 343L in the i-Tech.
Three driving modes
To help maximise its fuel economy, the Prius has three driving modes:
1. Power Mode is for the highway;
2. Eco Mode switches to battery power for slow driving on quiet streets; and
3. Normal Mode is for everyday driving, delivering total efficiency across all conditions.
