Audi recently rolled out the new premium variant for the A4 sedan, to celebrate a successful 2021. The new A4 sedan lineup now includes three variants – Premium, Premium Plus, and Technology starting at Rs 39.99 lakh, Rs 43.69 lakh, and Rs 47.61 lakh respectively.
The Premium Plus and Technology variants include features such as a 10.1-inch MMI touch-controlled infotainment system, three-zone climate control, 30 colour ambient lighting, LED headlamps, and sunroof. Safety features also include eight airbags, auto parking assist, parking sensors front/rear, and a tire monitor system. However, in the Premium variant, the three-zone climate control and 30 colours ambient lighting has been replaced by a single-zone automatic aircon unit and a single-colour ambient lighting. The Premium variant also has six safety airbags instead of the usual eight. The remaining features remain the same for all three variants.
Audi offers A4 with specifications of a 2.0-liter TFSI turbo-petrol engine that develops 190PS of power and 320 Nm of torque. To transmit power to the front wheels, it also comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The luxury sedan only takes 7.3 seconds to perform a 0-100 kmph sprint before hitting the top speed of 241 kmph.
Built for safety, luxury, and practicality, the car comes with an updated exterior design with a single frame grille, refreshed front and rear bumper, and new MATRIX headlamps. Additionally, the customers can choose from five exterior colours – Ibis White, Floret Silver Metallic, Mythos Black Metallic, Navarra Blue Metallic, and Terra Grey Metallic. First up, despite being a luxury sedan, A4 Premium is not very expensive compared to other luxury cars in the market like Mercedes-Benz C Class, Jaguar XE, BMW 3-series, and Volvo S60.
It is very quick to accelerate and can reach 0-100 kmph in less than 8 seconds.
The car offers an extremely silent ride as the suspension is quite absorbent, and the cabin has been designed strategically to cut down the NVH levels.
The nicely contoured seats and electrical adjustment features provide a comfortable sitting and driving position.
Modern features like a 10-inch infotainment system, wireless smartphone connectivity make the driving experience stress-free and luxurious.
The back seat can fold in a useful 40/20/40 split which makes it easier to accommodate longer items.
Responds well to throttle and gear.
Multiple driving modes are available.
Even though the cabin space is designed for 5 people, it is best suited for 4. The middle section of the rear seats can be uncomfortable with the aircon vents console taking up leg space.
Given that the A4 sedan is a sports car, no manual transmission is offered.
Although the starting price is affordable, it is expensive to upgrade.
The maintenance of the car can be expensive.
The back-end support and service network are poor.
All the exterior colours other than black and white cost extra.
The model requires regular tire rotation otherwise the tires will be damaged prematurely.
Scope for improvement when it comes to handling corners.
If you are someone who appreciates the joy of driving a well-balanced car, then the Audi A4 sedan range is a great option for you. It provides the perfect combination of style, tech, and refinement. The 40 TFSI configuration provides 201 horsepower, which can propel the A4 from 0 to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds. All the experts who have driven the car, confirm that this luxurious sports sedan offers a great drive. The richly appointed cabin with digital displays, lively handling, upscale styling, and plenty of other tech features are suitable for single users and large families. As discussed in the cons above, it can be difficult to accommodate a family of five, but the other highlights compensate for this.
Most importantly, the safety features are a big advantage, if you wish to use this model as a family car. Airbags and other safety features like blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, cruise control, etc. will keep you and your family safe. However, Audi’s warranty coverage is average and offers no complimentary scheduled maintenance coverage like some other luxury car brands. Additionally, Audi also doesn’t have a good service network and back-end support like its rivals do. This sometimes makes the Audi A4 a harder sell than it should be. It is a great car that has a lot of tech features to offer, but the car ownership experience is not very great.
