2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Facelift Launched, Prices Start At Rs 63.60 Lakh

Available only in a business class-like long-wheelbase (LWB) form, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class facelift has finally been launched in India. While the new long-wheelbase E-Class had already gone on sale in the Chinese market in 2020, this one is made in India. The upscale German marque was planning on launching the facelifted E-Class LWB a little later in 2021 but then decided to bring it over sooner due to customer demand. At launch, the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB is priced from Rs 63.60 Lakh to Rs 80.90 Lakh (ex-showroom, India). Compared to the standard E-Class, this long-wheelbase version has an increased wheelbase of 3,079mm – 140mm more between the axles.

In all, there are three different variants and three trim levels of the 2021 E-Class LWB on sale in India. The entry-level trim is called Expression, followed by Exclusive, and the top of the line AMG trim. As for the variants on offer, there are the E200 (petrol), E220d (diesel), and the top-of-the-line E350d (diesel). For a limited time only, Mercedes-Benz has availed of two exclusive exterior color options for the 2021 E-Class LWB – Designo Hyacinth Red and Selenite Grey. Meanwhile, customers can always pick from the standard color choices, which include shades like High-Tech Silver, Mojave Silver, Obsidian Black, and Polar White.

On the design front, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB definitely looks different from its predecessor. This is certainly true when you look at the front fascia, which now sports a different grille and bumper design along with new LED headlamps. Even the hood has been revised and now gets distinctive character lines to showcase sleekness and sportiness. Further accentuating the sporty appeal, especially on the AMG Line, are the more aggressive bumpers and front grille design.

Mercedes-Benz will also offer customers new designs for the alloy wheels, while soft-closing doors and a panoramic sunroof are available as well. At the back, the 2021 E-Class LWB gets gorgeous new LED tail lamps and a reworked bumper with a couple of fake exhaust tips.

Inside, the 2021 E-Class LWB comes with a whole host of fancy features and gizmos. It now gets Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX infotainment system that can be coupled to two 12.3-inch screens on the range-topping E350d. However, lower trims come as standard with two 10.25-inch screens, which are pretty good too, just not as much the larger displays. The upgraded infotainment system comes with the brand’s Linguatronic voice assistant and a suite of connectivity features as well.

Furthermore, the 2021 E-Class LWB gets a three-spoke steering wheel with capacitive-touch controls, electrically-adjustable front & rear seats with memory function, a Burmester premium audio system, three-zone automatic climate control, and 64-color LED mood lighting. Of course, you can tick a lot many more boxes under the ‘options’ catalog.

Being a Mercedes-Benz, the 2021 E-Class LWB is loaded to the gills with tons of safety features. As standard, you will get seven airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Program, Traction Control System, all-around parking sensors, ISOFIX anchorages, and a tire pressure monitoring system. Additionally, you can also get a 360-degree parking camera, Active Parking Assist, and even Pre-Safe which essentially primes your body right before an accident.

Under the hood, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB comes with the same engines as found in the previous model. The E200 is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that makes 194hp and 320Nm, while the four-cylinder turbo-diesel in the E220d generates 192hp and 400Nm. Finally, the range-topping E350d uses a 3.0-liter straight-six oil burner that produces 282hp and 600Nm of torque.

Meanwhile, handling transmission duties in the 2021 E-Class LWB is a 9-speed automatic gearbox. As for performance, both the E200 and E200d can get to 100 kmph in an identical 7.6 seconds, while the E350d will do the same in 6.1 seconds. In India, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB goes up against the Audi A6, BMW 5-Series, Jaguar XF, and Volvo S90.
