2021 Skoda Octavia Starts Arriving At Dealerships Ahead Of Official Launch

Just ahead of its official launch in the country, the first units of the 2021 Skoda Octavia have started reaching dealerships. This is usually a good indication that the launch is just around the corner. Going up against the Hyundai Elantra, the latest avatar of the Octavia is produced at the Czech brand’s Aurangabad facility in Maharashtra. The fourth-generation Skoda Octavia is underpinned by the VW Group’s MQB platform and is 18mm longer and 15mm wider than the model it replaces. Skoda will also give customers of the 2021 Octavia the option of an all-new Lava Blue color shade.

Powering the 2021 Skoda Octavia is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that churns out 187hp and 320Nm of torque. In our market, the only gearbox option on offer is a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. While the India-spec Octavia is still a front-wheel-drive platform, the quick-shifting dual-clutch gearbox and the punchy TSI motor mean that performance should never be a concern. Similarly, the new Octavia will come with enough safety gear to keep you safe and sound. There are up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, Emergency Brake Assist, Hill Hold Assist, all-around parking sensors plus a reversing camera, Electronic Stability Program, and Traction Control System.

Skoda has also loaded the 2021 Octavia with several creature comforts and cushy features. For instance, you get leather upholstery, tri-zone automatic climate control, power-operated & cooled front seats, LED mood lighting, an electric sunroof, wireless charging, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. Moreover, the system should also come with connected car tech and possibly even a virtual assistant. As for the cabin of the 2021 Octavia itself, the overall design looks nice and the quality of materials will definitely be on par with some more expensive German luxury sedans. The beige & black dual-tone interior looks pleasing, while the two-spoke steering wheel and the shift-by-wire gear selector add to the classy but modern appeal.

From the outside, the 2021 Skoda Octavia looks like a proper mid-size luxury sedan. It gets the Czech marque’s new front grille design, accompanied by dual-projector LED headlamps and sleek LED DRLs. To go along with the rest of the design, Skoda has given the 2021 Octavia a set of new alloy wheels as well. The rear of the Octavia comes with sharp-looking LED tail lamps, a revised bumper, and ‘Skoda’ badging on the boot.

Hyundai Elantra - New and Used
The Hyundai Elantra is the closest rival to the Skoda Octavia in India

While the Octavia has always been a popular premium sedan in India, these days, most buyers migrate to SUVs. And though Skoda has the all-new Kushaq and (the upcoming) Kodiaq on offer, there is something really quite pleasing about a well-designed sedan. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how the 2021 Skoda Octavia fares once it goes on sale.
