The new-generation Skoda Superb is definitely one of the best premium sedans in India. In essence, the Superb has its own fan base, and is the flagship offering from the Volkswagen-owned Czech brand. Ever since it was given a thorough makeover in early 2020, the Skoda Superb has seen some new equipment being introduced. However, it seems that Skoda wasn’t very satisfied with that, so it has now installed even more new features. Do note that this newly-revised model is already on sale in some countries, and will be coming to India soon. As of now, there are two variants of the Superb on sale in India – Sportline and L&K. The former starts from Rs 30.49 Lakh, whilst the range-topping L&K costs Rs 32.99 Lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Of course, with its new list of features, I expect the 2021 Superb to cost a little bit more. But that is quite alright since the 2021 Skoda Superb will offer a better overall value in the end. In terms of its exterior design, the 2021 model will likely be almost similar to the outgoing one. However, one can expect a few minor tweaks – maybe to the bumpers and/or alloy wheels. Small changes like that, but definitely nothing drastic or significant. The most important changes this time will be on the inside. While its exterior looked fine and pretty modern, the interior of the outgoing Superb lacked some of the latest tech. Now, Skoda has added some of those techy features, making this cabin far more appealing and modern in the process.
For instance, the large touchscreen has been redesigned and runs Skoda’s new MIB3 software. The screen itself is brighter, offers better picture quality, while also being pretty responsive and easy to use. Furthermore, the Superb now comes with wireless charging and wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay. Other modern touches come in the form of Type-C ports, a 360-degree camera system, and a customizable Virtual Cockpit.
The 2021 Skoda Superb also gets a new two-spoke steering wheel and a hands-free parking assistant. Having said all that, do remember that some of these features will only be available on the fully-loaded L&K variant. The rest of the cabin, meanwhile, hasn’t been altered in any way. That said, this is still one of the best places to spend your time during long road trips.
For 2021, the Skoda Superb will continue to soldier on with the outgoing 2.0-liter TSI four-cylinder engine. However, that is far from a bad thing. The turbo four-banger puts out a healthy 188hp along with 320Nm of maximum torque, and comes mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
And this being a Superb, there are plenty of safety nannies to keeps things in check. But for good measure, Skoda has equipped the sedan with 8 airbags, electronic stability control & traction management, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, plus a driver fatigue alert system. Skoda hasn’t announced any official launch date for the 2021 Superb, but it is definitely coming to India.
