Tata Motors, the homegrown carmaker, has announced the rollout of the 3,00,000th Tiago from its Sanand-based manufacturing facility in Gujarat. It must be noted here that the Tiago was first launched back in April 2016 and got a mid-life facelift around the beginning of this year. The Tata Tiago has been a fairly successful product and has impressed many with its handsome looks, frugal engine and good ride quality. The Tata Tiago also became the first product to go on sale under the IMPACT design philosophy and even brought in a handful of segment-first features at the time of the launch. Currently, the Tiago is on sale at a starting price of Rs 4.69 lakh (ex-showroom).
It is important to mention here that back in the day, the Tata Tiago was launched with two engine variants – 1.2-litre petrol and 1.05-litre diesel. A couple of years down the line, it even received an optional AMT for the petrol variant. However, with the launch of the facelift, the low-capacity diesel engine has been axed owing to the low demand for diesel cars in the small car segment making it unjustifiable, especially after accounting for the up-gradation costs to comply with the BSVI emission standard. Hence, the Tiago is now available only with a 1.2-litre petrol engine that is on sale with two transmission options – 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT.

Moreover, Tata Motors claims that Tiago is its most awarded car and it even became one of the highest-selling hatchbacks in India back in August 2018. The small car competes with the likes of Maruti WagonR and Hyundai Santro. The BSVI version that was launched earlier this year was introduced as a part of the company’s Tata Motors’ New Forever range. The updated model even became the recipient of the 4-star adult safety score from the Global NCAP. In fact, the high safety provided by the Tata Tiago has often come under the limelight as many users have often shared their experiences of the small car protecting them and other occupants in an event of an accident.
The Tata Tiago comes equipped with the best in class safety features such as Dual Air Bags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Corner Stability Control (CSC) & Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Rear Parking Assist, and more as standard across variants. This, in turn, surely makes the Tiago one of the safest cars in its segment. The Tiago is likely to be replaced with an all-new model in two years’ time.
