All-new 2020 Mahindra Thar to Launch Soon

Team CARS24

Mahindra and Mahindra, the homegrown auto manufacturer, has been working on as many as three all-new products that will be launched in the coming months. While each of these upcoming models holds enough significance in helping the carmaker achieve its future targets, the first of the upcoming Mahindra cars in India will launch as soon as in the next couple of months. The vehicle we’re talking about here is none other than the second generation Mahindra Thar, which is being under development for a couple of years now.

We have already seen numerous test mules of the upcoming vehicle getting tested in various parts of the country and from the looks of it, the company is already done with the road-trials of the upcoming model. In fact, the second-gen Thar was earlier scheduled to launch soon after the onset of the new financial year but the outbreak of pandemic seems to have resulted into a huge delay in the introduction of the new model.

Nevertheless, it now looks highly likely that the launch of all-new Mahindra Thar would take place by the advent of this year’s festive season. The first-gen Thar has already created a huge fan base and appeals to everyone looking for a rugged lifestyle SUV that isn’t too expensive to buy and run. With the next-gen model, the company would aim to retain this position, along with also trying to capture a wider audience by offering a more upmarket product that is as good on the road as it is off it.

2020 Mahindra Thar Features

The next-gen Mahindra Thar will come equipped with several upmarket features like a touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, reverse camera, powerful aircon, steering-mounted audio controls and electrically-adjustable outside rearview mirrors. The new model will be available with a factory-fitted hard-top, front-facing rear seats, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, etc. All of these will make it a much more conventional offering than its predecessor.

2020 Mahindra Thar Specifications

The next generation Mahindra Thar will be underpinned by a ladder-frame chassis that will be a modified version of the company’s ZEN3 platform that underpins the current Scorpio and TUV300. Even the suspension system will be entirely new and will lead to improved vehicle dynamics.

Powering the new model will be new petrol and diesel engines. The former will be a 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine that was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020, while the latter will be the same 2.2-litre motor that powered the first-gen model. Transmission options for both the motors are likely to include a 6-speed manual and an Aisin-sourced 6-speed torque convertor automatic unit. 4×4 will be offered as an optional extra.
