Electric Vehicles are certainly the way forward and in recent times, there has been a clear increase in the number of buyers of these vehicles. However, there are still some issues that keep most from investing in an EV. One of this is the range anxiety that comes from the lack of sufficient EV-charging infrastructure in the country. Fortunately, things are changing pretty rapidly and while there’s still some time before EVs become mainstream, many major cities now have huge electric vehicle charging stations that allow users to quickly replenish there vehicle batteries and save themselves from running out of juice. Here are all the details of the best EV (Electric Vehicle) charging station in Mumbai
The financial capital of India boasts of India’s second-largest electric vehicle charging station. This facility is situated in Navi Mumbai and was inaugurated in 2021 by Subhash Desai, Minister of Industries and Mining, Maharashtra. It offers 17 AC chargers that range from 3.5kW to 7.5kW, while the DC charging station offers 15kW to 50kW charging. The users of the chargers can monitor the charging status of their vehicles through Magenta’s ChargeGrid App.
One must note that the state of Maharashtra announced a robust EV policy last year to propose many incentives to early buyers of electric vehicles. These benefits are to be provided under the FAME II scheme released by the Government of India. The only other states to have announced similar policies are Delhi and Gujarat.
The Navi Mumbai-based charging station is open 24×7 and features 21 chargers, including 4 DC chargers of 15 to 50kW capacity and 17 AC chargers of 3.5 to 7.5kW. The latter has been designed and produced in-house locally. Based on the usage, an electric vehicle can be juiced up in as little as 45 minutes while the vehicles that require AC slow-charging can be left overnight in the dedicated parking bay. These EV chargers can be used through the ChargeGrid app provided by Magenta and the users can even benefit from online remote monitoring and automated payment gateway.
The installation of India’s second-largest EV charging station in Mumbai is in accordance with the Central Government’s plan to put into action 4,00,000 charging stations across the country to cater to 2 million EVs that are expected to ply on Indian roads in next 4 years. As per the SMEV data, there were just 1,800 charging stations in India (as of March 2021) and these cater to 16,200 electric cars.
Speaking at the inauguration of the best EV (Electric Vehicle) charging station in Mumbai, Subhash Desai, Minister of Industries and Mining, Maharashtra, said, “Under our draft EV Policy 2021, we aim to bring at least 1,46,000 new battery-operated electric vehicles (BEVs) on state roads by 2025, estimated to comprise about 10 percent of all new vehicle registrations by that time. We support our very own local start-ups like Magenta to drive the adoption of EVs in the state and in the country and soon globally.”
