The Dubai Police is no stranger to cool and exotic cars. Where most countries have humble and inexpensive vehicles as part of their police force, the UAE isn’t ‘most countries’. Moreover, few places on earth obsess over glamour, panache, and technology the way Dubai does. So, it is no surprise that this oasis in the desert has one of the best-equipped and deep-pocketed police forces in the world. The Dubai Police’s jealousy-inducing fleet includes luxury supercars from exotic marques such as Aston Martin, Bentley, Bugatti, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, McLaren, and a Lykan HyperSport, among others.
However, the Dubai Police’s car induction program never really stops. This time around, it has acquired a brand-new Genesis GV80. Unlike some of its other expensive and exotic cars, the latest vehicle to join the Dubai Police fleet isn’t as exotic. Having said that, the Genesis GV80 is definitely not a boring or cheap SUV. While it may not have the outright pizzazz of a Bugatti or an Aston Martin, the new Genesis GV80 is still considered a luxury SUV. As part of the Dubai Police General Command, this luxury SUV sports the characteristic green & white livery that the force is known for. Anyway, one thing is certain, this particular Genesis GV80 will not have much trouble standing out. If you didn’t know, Genesis is the luxury arm of the Korean automaker Hyundai.
Commenting on the Dubai Police’s latest purchase was Suliman ALZaben, director of Genesis UAE. He was quoted saying,
“We take pride in partnering with Dubai Police in various initiatives that aim at spreading awareness among all segments of society on traffic safety. We hope that the high-tech Genesis GV80 contributes to facilitate Dubai Police’s operations and provide various services to the public.”
While its exterior paint scheme definitely helps this particular example of the GV80, its overall styling is pretty swanky too. The long hood leads to a wide mesh grille at the front that is flanked by dual ultra-slim LED headlamps. Meanwhile, the sculpted bumper houses two air scoops and a chiseled lower apron.
Along the sides, the svelte window line goes hand-in-hand with the massive alloy wheels and broad rear haunches of the GV80. Mimicking the main front headlamps at the back are a pair of sleek, split LED tail lamps. Accentuating the Genesis GV80’s sporty appeal are its extended roof spoiler and a liftgate-integrated duck-tail spoiler. Further down the rear are twin tailpipes that are finished in chrome and a sporty-looking gloss black trim.
Depending on the market, the Genesis GV80 can be fitted with either a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder or a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engine. The turbo four-popper has a decent amount of punch, shooting 300 horsepower to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. That is enough to propel this 2.2-ton luxury SUV to 100 kmph in under 7 seconds. However, the twin-turbocharged V6 version (with 375hp) is quicker still – hitting 100 kmph in just 5.5 seconds. It also gets an all-wheel-drive system to go along with the more powerful engine. Meanwhile, the GV80’s top speed is a pretty respectable 240 kmph. The Dubai Police hasn’t specified which version of the GV80 it has, but I reckon it is probably the twin-turbo V6 model.
