Owning a vehicle comes with its own set of documentation and paperwork that must be updated, some more than others. Some of the most common yet important processes include services such as obtaining a learner’s permit, registration of a vehicle, and renewal of a driver’s license, among others. For these, one had to visit their nearby regional transport office (RTO), which can be a chore. However, the government, in an effort to simplify processes, has introduced Aadhaar-based driving license and registration services. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) released a statement where it mentioned the new contactless service for residents of the country.
Primarily, the bulletin pointed out that services regarding Driving License and Certificate of Registration have been moved online. This is great news as people can now avail these services from the comfort and safety of their homes. In our current pandemic-ridden world, such a hassle-free step will certainly be appreciated. According to MoRTH, those requiring contactless online services will first need to undergo mandatory Aadhaar authentication. On the other hand, if one does not yet possess an Aadhar card, the online services can still be used with a simple enrollment slip ID.
The statement from MoRTH mentioned that “Provided that till the time Aadhaar is assigned to the individual, benefits of contactless services shall be given to such individual subject to the production of Aadhaar Enrolment ID slip.” In all, there are currently 18 license-related services that can now be availed online. Below is the full list of services that are now available online for citizens.
Moving to an online portal will not only reduce the visits to an RTO, but it will also make the whole process more simplified and transparent.
