It is official now, folks! Hyundai is gearing up to launch the all-new Alcazar SUV in India very soon. The 7-seater version of the already extremely popular Creta, the Alcazar, is named after the Spanish term for a castle. Up until recently, most of us weren’t even sure if this SUV will even be called Alcazar as there was no confirmation from the Korean automaker. However, Hyundai India has finally advertised the impending launch on its official website. Well, at least they have advertised the ‘Alcazar’ name, along with scenic shots and montages of some Spanish countryside and a huge castle.
Truth be told, not a whole lot is known about the Hyundai Alcazar for the time being. We do know that it will go up against the Mahindra XUV500, MG Hector Plus, and the new Tata Safari. Most of the spy shots on the interweb of the all-new Alcazar were those of heavily-camouflaged test mules. Therefore, it isn’t the easiest job in the world to decipher all the changes that Hyundai has made on the styling front. Having said that, you can be assured that telling the Alcazar apart from its Creta brethren will be quite easy. Firstly, there is the size of the thing. To be able to accommodate the third-row of seats in the back, Hyundai has had to stretch the body. So, there is the first tell.
Secondly, the all-new Alcazar will have a few tweaks made to its exterior. While much of this will be cosmetic, it will still help people identify the Alcazar on the road. Hyundai will likely revise the design of the front grille and bumper, along with changing the design for the alloy wheels and the lower door cladding. However, just as with what we saw between the Tata Harrier and the new Safari, much of the exterior changes on the all-new Alcazar will be visible at the back. Unlike the Creta, the upcoming Alcazar will feature a third window between the C & D pillars. This will not only help those sat in the back feel airier, but it will also help drivers get a better view of what’s behind the car.
Since the roof on the Creta slopes down a bit towards the rear, Hyundai will change that on the Alcazar. Once again, this will help liberate some extra space for those in the last row. Due to this, and the fact that Hyundai has stretched the body, the Alcazar will have more overhang at the back. At the back, it will be fair to assume that the all-new Alcazar will feature a new set of tail lamps, a new roof spoiler design, and a revised rear bumper. Being a three-row family SUV, the Hyundai Alcazar should offer more practicality and storage spaces. On the flip side, boot space will be compromised when compared to its Creta sibling. Of course, you should be able to fold away the third row to create more space for luggage.
While the Alcazar is being marketed as a 7-seater SUV, Hyundai will likely also offer it in a 6-seater avatar. This will be in line with what the competition is already offering and will also make the Alcazar more popular. In its 6-seater avatar, the all-new Alcazar will mostly come with captain chairs for the middle row. Meanwhile, the more practical 7-seater version will get a bench seat in the middle. Regardless, the last row is likely to feature only two individual seats, since placing three people in the back won’t be a realistic possibility. The interior of the all-new Hyundai Alcazar will most probably carry forward the Creta’s overall design and layout.
The Alcazar will also get many of the features and equipment that we are already familiar with on the Creta. This means you can expect keyless entry with push-button start, an electric sunroof, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, automatic climate control, cruise control, leather upholstery, ambient lighting, wireless charging, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay. Customers should be able to choose between a 1.5-liter turbo-diesel and a 1.4-liter turbo-petrol engine, though a 1.5-liter petrol motor might also be available. Meanwhile, transmission options will likely include a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, a 6-speed automatic, and a 6-speed manual gearbox.
