The Jaguar I-Pace is one of those cars that doesn’t really need a special edition to boost its sales. It is an electric SUV that not only looks brilliant, but being a Jaguar, it definitely isn’t your run-of-the-mill EV. However, the British luxury marque figured it wouldn’t hurt to launch a special edition of the I-Pace – only for the UK market, though. With EVs gaining more and more recognition and fame all over the world, manufacturers have no qualms in introducing new & improved versions of pre-existing ones. As for the I-Pace Black Edition, Jaguar hasn’t made anything that “new” or “improved”. Does it matter, though? No.
As you may have figured by now, the I-Pace Black Edition gets quite a few black additions. Up front, the standard grille has been supplanted by an all-black mesh, which certainly adds to this SU(E)V’s sporty appeal. The suave LED headlamps and large air intakes stay put, so does the desirable Jaguar emblem. The svelte side profile gains gloss black window surrounds, black wing-mirror housings, darkened privacy glass, and the 20-inch alloy rims now sport a black finish as well. At the back, the I-Pace Black Edition gets the black effect on all the logos and branding. This is one ‘dark’ Jaguar. Meanwhile, Jaguar will still offer the I-Pace Black Edition in all the colors that the standard model gets.
The interior of the I-Pace Black Edition is just as, well, black as you would expect. Everything, from the leather seats to the door pads, pillars, dashboard, center console and roof lining, is all black. Even the shiny bits of plastics in this cabin are now all black. Thankfully, Jaguar has retained the full-length panoramic glass roof to allow some light to enter the cabin. So, it is not all goth and gloomy in here. However, if the standard version feels quite sporty, the Black Edition elevates that to an entirely another level. You also wont feel lacking in any features, as Jaguar has equipped the Black Edition with almost every piece of kit found in the standard I-Pace.
Costing between £72,500 and £76,700, the Black Edition is not cheap. Fortunately, you get what you pay for. The I-Pace Black Edition gets a digital instrument cluster, a Pivi Pro infotainment system with InControl connected car tech plus Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, 4G Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless charging, surround-view cameras, a 16-speaker Meridian sound system, adaptive dampers, a quad-zone automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control, and LED mood lighting. The I-Pace Black Edition comes with a 90kWh battery which powers two electric motors that together produce 294kW (394hp), along with 696Nm of torque. This enables this Jaguar EV to hit a top speed of 200 kmph, whilst the run from 0 to 100 kmph comes up in 4.8 seconds.

The 90kW battery in the I-Pace Black Edition allows a maximum range of 470 kilometers on a full charge. If plugged into a 100kW DC fast charger, the I-Pace’s battery can be fully topped up in 45 minutes. However, Jaguar provides customers with a far-less-powerful 7.4kW AC charger as standard. This means that juicing up the battery pack from 0 to 100 percent takes as much as 10 hours. While the Black Edition is essentially a fully-loaded I-Pace, its sportier presence might make it a more convincing investment for some. Will it come to India? Well, chances of that are slim, if at all.
