Like we’ve been saying for a while now, the Kia Sonet will be made available in a range of engine and gearbox options, the base models will employ a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated Kappa petrol engine that is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Going by the price list that has been issued by the dealership, prices of the base petrol engine variant will start at Rs 6.99 lakh*, which will be the HTE version. The costliest trim of the base engine variant is the HTK Plus version, which will cost Rs 8.29 lakh*. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine variant is the most powerful one and going by the price list being given by the dealership, it will cost Rs 9.49 lakh* for the base model. Meanwhile, the diesel engine variant will be retailed in a price range of Rs 8.39-12.99 lakh*.
One should note here that the 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor will be sold in two transmission variants – 6-speed iMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission) and 7-speed DCT automatic. On the other hand, the base petrol engine, which is the 1.2-litre Kappa unit, will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The diesel engine variant will be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged unit that will be available in two states of tune. The first of these will offer 100 PS and 240 Nm, while the motor will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The other version will offer 115 PS and 250 Nm, and the motor will be mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
At present, we’re not sure if the price list that has been issued by a Kia dealership is anywhere close to the actual rate list that will be released next month. However, in all likelihood, the Kia Sonet will cost a tad more than the Hyundai Venue. Also, it will be sold in two trims – Tech Line and GT Line.
