The Maruti Vitara Brezza is not only the most popular compact SUV but is also the highest selling SUV in the country. On an average, it sells more than 13,500 units every month, which is much more than what similarly priced models like the Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon do. The Brezza features only a diesel engine, but great pricing ensures a high demand for the model. There are many Maruti Vitara Brezza features that make this model the great success it is. Let’s review all of them in the post we have here.
The Brezza is a small SUV that is no longer than four metres in length. Yet, its design is such that it looks very macho and has oodles of street presence. This is due to the conventional boxy styling that can be found on the Grand Vitara that was sold in India many years ago. Moreover, the sleek headlamps, the stylish grille, huge bumper, and the large greenhouse give the small SUV a lot of street cred.
The Maruti Vitara Brezza features a dual tone paint scheme that has a contrasting paint for the pillars and the roof. This gives it a premium look Our favourite is the red base paint with black paint for the roof. Other highlights of the design include stylish projector headlamps, attractive grille, a huge bumper with scuff plates, rear washer and wiper, a roof-mounted spoiler, and body graphics. All this gives a very attractive appearance to the Brezza. While it doesn’t look as modern as the Nexon, it’s this true-blue SUV styling that makes the SUV a head-turner even after more than two years of existence in the market.
The Brezza is small on the outside but has a very spacious cabin. It provides more space than both Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport. The legroom at both front and rear is more than what you would expect from a sub-4-metre car. Also, it is quite wide, which means you can easily seat three in the rear seat. The only little complaint that we have is with the 328-litres boot space. It’s not too less but isn’t great either. To put things in perspective, the Maruti Baleno has a 339-litre boot in spite of being a hatchback.
One area where the Maruti Vitara Brezza scores high is its features list. The cabin is really very well equipped for the price you pay. The top-end ZXI+ trim has many great features, which makes the overall experience a notch better. The dashboard of the Brezza features a Smartplay infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also offers voice recognition. The car has a multi-function steering wheel, and the dashboard has a two glove compartment setup. The gearknob is wrapped in leather, and the seats are draped in premium upholstery. Other highlights of the interior features include automatic climate control, central locking with remote, keyless entry, and push-button start.
An interesting bit is that the Maruti Vitara Brezza features a diesel engine only. In spite of the lack of a petrol engine, the SUV manages to outsell all the competition. This is because the diesel engine for the Brezza is a powerful unit that has a high performance without sacrificing the mileage. Also, the motor is high on refinement, and the SUV offers low NVH levels.
The compact SUV from Maruti Suzuki sports a Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine that outputs a maximum power of 90 PS along with a peak torque of 200 Nm. It comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission that provides smooth shifting. The Brezza can easily sprint from zero to 100 kmph in less than 13 seconds. It can hit a top speed of speedo-indicated 175 kmph, which is quite commendable for a car of this size and price. Also, the world-class engine ensures high reliability, which, combined with low cost of maintenance by Maruti, translates into really low ownership costs.
Every car from Maruti Suzuki is known for its really high mileage, and the Vitara Brezza is no different in this aspect. Among the most important Brezza features is its best in segment mileage. The high fuel efficiency, along with the lower cost of diesel fuel than petrol, makes this car a gem. The reason behind high mileage by the Brezza is its strong yet lightweight platform and a well-tuned engine.
The Maruti Vitara Brezza delivers a high mileage of 24.29 kmpl, which is comparable to what many of the small cars deliver. With such high mileage, the Brezza turns out to be the most fuel-efficient SUV in India. There is really no challenger to the Maruti SUV in this department. In city conditions, the SUV can easily deliver a mileage of more than 15 kmpl, whereas, on the highway, it can easily achieve above 20 kmpl. What’s really appreciable is that the stellar fuel efficiency is achieved without taking in aid from the excellent SHVS mild hybrid system that is available on other Maruti cars.
The Maruti Vitara Brezza is a sub-4-metre offering, which benefits from the lower excise duty slab for cars that measure less than 4,000 mm in length. This helps the company price it very aggressively. However, you’ll be amazed by the space on offer as soon as you step inside. Like we said, before, there is enough space to seat three adults on the rear bench and the legroom at both front and rear is pretty high. The only little grouse we have is with the mediocre boot space.
Even if you consider the exterior, it’s easy to see that the small dimensions haven’t impacted the street presence the vehicle commands. Thanks to its high ride height of 198 mm, along with the above average width and height, helps it have a bold appearance. In spite of a small footprint, the Brezza features a rather aggressive exterior that commands respect from other road users.
By going through our review of the compact SUV, it is quite easy to see that the Maruti Vitara Brezza features stand at par with what the competition offers. Moreover, the Brezza offers equipment and features that are available only on the costlier SUVs on sale in the Indian car market.
