On the occasion of first year anniversary of the Maruti XL6, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL), the country’s largest selling car manufacturer, has revealed that the Ertiga-based crossover-MPV has sold more than 25,000 copies in the first year of its sale. Available at the premium NEXA dealerships, the Maruti XL6 offers captain seats in the second row and features a bolder styling than the MPV it is based on. All this has made it quite popular as it has managed to capture almost 14 per cent of the market share in India’s MPV segment. Also, together with the Ertiga, the XL6 has helped its carmaker achieve a market share of 51% in the MPV segment of the Indian car market.

Like we said, the Maruti XL6 is being sold through he company’s Nexa range of premium outlets, which comprise of 370 showrooms spread across the nation. The XL6, as hinted by the name, is a 6-seater model. While it’s based on the Maruti Ertiga, it looks a tad bolder owing to the reworked front-end that carries a bold grille and stylish LED headlights. Also, the interior feels more upmarket due to the all-black colour theme.
Underpinning the Maruti XL6 is the company’s lightweight yet rigid HEARTECT platform, which also forms the base of many modern Maruti Suzuki cars, including Baleno, WagonR, Swift, Ertiga and Dzire. The XL6, like all other Maruti Suzuki cars on sale in the passenger market, is a petrol-only model that is powered by a 1.5-litre K-Series four-cylinder naturally aspirated motor. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic unit. The engine is assisted by company’s SHVS mild hybrid system that boosts fuel efficiency and performance. Prices of the Maruti XL6 start at Rs 9.84 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 11.51 lakh (ex-showroom).
