We already knew that McLaren Automotive (or simply ‘McLaren’) was going to make its way to our shores soon. Now, the niche British nameplate has officially announced the pricing of its cars for the Indian market. The range will start with the uber-friendly McLaren GT, priced from just Rs 3.72 Crore. This will be followed by the feisty twins – the McLaren 720S (Coupe) and 720S Spider – priced at Rs 4.65 Crore and Rs 5.04 Crore, respectively. All prices mentioned here are ex-showroom, India. However, while the McLaren Artura will not be launched right away, it is coming to India in the near future.
Initially, McLaren will only have a single showroom in the country, based in the financial capital of Mumbai. All sales and post-sales duties will be handled by the Infinity Group, which currently also retails Lamborghinis, Aston Martins, Porsches, and Rolls-Royces. With the official launch just a short distance away, customer order books might already be open. Given the brand’s rich history and surprisingly usable supercars, McLaren shouldn’t have much trouble finding deserving customers in India.
The model range kicks off with the McLaren GT, which has been specifically designed for grand touring purposes. Of course, this being a McLaren, the GT is anything but boring. Its mid-mounted 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine delivers 611hp and 630Nm of torque, spinning the rear wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
If you think the GT’s performance will be impressive, you will be proven right. The dash from 0 to 100 kmph takes only 3.2 seconds, while the 200 kmph mark will be taken care of in another 5.8 seconds. Flat out, the McLaren GT will do 326 kmph. Covering vast distances in this grand tourer will be a seemingly quick affair.
In comparison, the McLaren 720S twins are a completely different breed of mile munchers. While the GT will be an excellent companion for long-distance touring, the 720S is meant to eat its rear tires. Available in Coupe and Spider forms, the McLaren 720S will have no qualms if you are someone who likes flexing your car’s supremacy.
Sporting an exterior that will make almost anyone weak in their knees, this is a supercar with surreal performance to back up its aggressive styling. The 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 in the 720S has been tuned to make a lust-worthy 710hp and 770Nm of torque.
Despite weighing around 1,500 kg, the McLaren 720S is capable of breaching 100 kmph in less than 3 seconds. Keep the gas pedal floored, and the acceleration will continue to pin you against the seat as the 720S hits 200 kmph in the next 2 seconds or so. In case you find yourself on an unlimited stretch of the German Autobahn (or a long drag strip), the McLaren 720S will be able to showcase its 341 kmph top speed. On the other hand, if spending around Rs 6 Crore sounds doable, the 720S Spider will thrill you even more. With no roof above you, the Spider will hit 325 kmph while also subjecting you to a new hairstyle.
