MG Motors India, the local subsidiary of Chinese-owned British marque, has finally revealed the Gloster, the rebadged Maxus D90 for our market. For the uninitiated, the Maxus D90 is a larger-than-Toyota-Fortuner Chinese SUV that offers many features and powerful engine options. Other than revealing the India-spec MG Gloster, the carmaker has also started taking the bookings for the new model. One can pre-order the upcoming SUV for a token amount of Rs 1 lakh. The booking can be made online on the company’s official website or by visiting a local MG Motor India dealership. It must be noted that the MG Gloster will become the most expensive model in MG’s model range in India.

Powering the MG Gloster will be a 2.0-litre diesel engine that will be available in two different states of tune. The lower of these two tunes will be owing to a single turbocharger system instead of a twin turbocharger setup on the more powerful version. The single turbocharged-equipped unit will go on to output maximum power and torque outputs of 163bhp and 375 Nm, respectively. The top-spec engine with twin-turbocharger setup, on the other hand, produces 218bhp of maximum power and 480Nm of twisting force. An 8-speed automatic transmission will come mated to both the engines as standard. However, a four-wheel-drive will be available only on the top-end models. These versions will even come with the shift-on-the-fly technology and selectable drive modes.

Dimensionally, the MG Gloster will be a shoe size bigger than its rivals. It is 4,985 mm long, 1,926 mm wide, 1,867 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. Inside, it will come loaded to its gills with upmarket features like a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility,  i-Smart connected car tech, a panoramic sunroof, powered and heated front seats, ventilation, memory, and massage function for the driver seat, 3-zone climate control, a tyre pressure monitor, a powered tailgate, LED headlamps and more.

Safety features on offer will include six airbags, a 360-degree camera, ESP, traction control, hill-start assist and hill descent control, and many more. In all, the SUV will be made available in four different trim levels, viz. Super, Smart, Sharp and Savvy. The Smart and Savvy trims will be available in a 6-seat configuration with captain seats for the middle row. The Super trim will be only sold in a 7-seater configuration, while the Sharp trim can be offered with options of both the seating arrangements.
