Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL), the largest carmaker in the country by volume, had showcased the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso S-CNG at the Auto Expo 2020 and had initially planned to launch the new model by April this year. However, the ongoing pandemic led to a delay and the carmaker could finally launch the new vehicle only now. The new model has gone on sale at a starting price of Rs 4.84 lakh (ex-showroom) and it’s available in as many as four trim levels – LXi, LXi (O), VXi and VXi (O). The new model has joined the WagonR and the Celerio in the company’s CNG-powered range. It may be noted that until recently, the Alto 800 used to be the most affordable CNG car from the company but now since the S-CNG version of the 800cc Alto has been discontinued, it’s the S-Presso which takes the title of cheapest Maruti CNG car in India.

Powering the Maruti S-Presso S-CNG is the updated version of the petrol powerplant that propels the petrol-only model. It should be noted here that the S-Presso was launched in the BSVI guise and hence, for the recently launched variant, the company had to simply add the CNG technology to an engine that was always in line with the latest emission norms. However, as is the case with such modifications, the motor has lost out on some of its power when compared to the potency of the petrol model.
Like the petrol engine, the dual-fuel CNG-petrol version displaces 1.0-litre and has a three-cylinder layout. However, it offers lower power and torque figures. The updated motor pumps out a maximum power of 55 PS at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 90 Nm at 3,500 RPM. Also, while the petrol motor is available with two transmission choices – 5-speed MT and 5-speed AMT – the CNG version is only available with a 5-speed manual transmission. The engine offers ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency of 31.2 km/kg. The fuel tank volume measures 55 litres (Water filling capacity).
The new BS6 Maruti Suzuki S-Presso S-CNG is on sale in as many as four variants to suit every budget and requirement. The new model is being sold in LXI, LXI (O), VXI and VXI (O) trims. Check out all the features of the new BS6 Maruti Suzuki S-Presso S-CNG in the list given below –

As for the benefits, the huge advantage, in fact, we should say, the only advantage, that the new BS6 Maruti Suzuki S-Presso S-CNG enjoys over the regular version is the ultra-low running costs. With an ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency of 31.2 km/kg, using the S-Presso S-CNG turns out to be almost half as expensive as the petrol variant. This makes the new model not only a worthy option for the fleet market but also a great car for those who need a respite from the huge fuel bills.
As mentioned above, the new BS6 Maruti Suzuki S-Presso S-CNG has been launched in India at a starting price of Rs 4.84 lakh (ex-showroom), which makes the new model one of the cheapest CNG cars in India.
