The year 2022 has already been quite exciting for the auto industry, with multiple new launches in almost every car type, from hatchbacks to sedans or even from SUVs to EVs. The brands in the Indian auto industry are pushing to expand their portfolio in our country. There are several quite exciting launches that are scheduled for the month of February. These new launches are very crucial for these brands as these are the standout products in a very competitive market. This lineup looks quite exciting, and many people are eagerly waiting for these launches as well.
Kick-starting the month of February is the launch of the Audi Q7 facelift, which is scheduled for 3rd Feb. The Audi Q7 facelift has already undergone bookings through the dealerships as well as through the website online. The Audi Q7 is also very crucial for the brand as the Q7 will now be making its comeback to the Indian market. The Q7 was discontinued by the brand back in 2020 April because of the BS6 regulations that came out. The Q7 will be back with a stronger-looking appeal. The brand has gone to all extents to ensure a strong comeback of the Q7. The brand has worked on the exterior, interior as well as the engine of the car.
As compared to the pre-facelifted Audi Q7, the new Audi Q7 will be powered by a 340hp, 3-litre V6 turbo-petrol engine instead of the diesel engine. Yes, the new facelifted Audi Q7 will only be available in the petrol variant. Moreover, the previous 2-litre petrol engine variant is also discontinued. There are further updates, such as the Audi’s Quattro AWD system and the adaptive air suspension. The new Audi will be bringing very strong competition in its segment.
Moving on to the most prominent car manufacturer in India, Maruti Suzuki is also ready to change the game with the all-new, heavily updated Baleno. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno has been one of the highest-selling cars in the segment despite the other newer options that have come during the years. The Baleno has been a blessing for the brand ever since its launch. The brand’s plans to upgrade the existing Baleno are due to the tougher competition the car has been facing from the other competitors, be it because of the updated tech or the safety features. The brand went all out to change the exterior as well as bring major changes in the interior too. There is also a change of sheet metal in the doors as well as in the bonnet of the car.
Speaking of the upgradation, the major changes can be witnessed in the interior of the car, with a new stand-alone touchscreen along with the new switchgear, which boosts the tech in the car. The car might also be carrying a wireless Apple Carplay/Android Auto and embedded SIM card for car-connected tech. The mechanical power hasn’t been changed by the brand. The car will still be operating with an 83hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine and also a 90hp 1.2 Litre petrol mild-hybrid engine. The brand is ready to launch the car as soon as it possibly can. The production of the car has already commenced in their Gujarat plant. The new Baleno promises to be a great competition in the segment.
In the EV segment, we have a new launch this month by MG. The brand has planned to unveil the new MG ZS EV facelifted model this month. The new ZS EV facelift was launched back in October last year. The facelifted ZS EV has not only undergone cosmetic upgrades, but also there have been changes under the hood of the car. Previously the MG ZS EV had a smaller battery pack of about 44.5kWh, which is now upgraded to the 51kWh unit. The new ZS EV promises a longer range; the previous models were capable of going 419kms on a single charge, whereas the new facelift can run up to 480kms.
The interiors of the cars match that of the present MG Astor but are a bit different. There are cosmetic changes such as the new LED headlamps and the tail lamps with the new LED light signatures. Furthermore, there are modifications in the front and rear bumpers, along with new alloy wheels to complement the new blanked-off grille. There aren’t many changes when we speak of the interior of the car; there might be minor changes in the interior, such as the wireless phone charger and a new digital instrument cluster to accompany the bigger 10.1-inch touchscreen.
Kia has been a brand that has seen exponential growth ever since it has entered the Indian market. Kia has been a brand that has brought forth cars that are loved by the Indian demographic and has found a loyal base with Indian consumers. The brand has been very intelligent with launching vehicles that have been suited well in each segment they have tried to enter. From the beloved Seltos to the new Sonet, Kia has played its cards very well. Enhancing its grasp on the Indian market, the brand is looking forward to launching, which promises to break many records with the new Kia Carens.
This vehicle fits really very well in the segment that it is trying to enter. Kia Carens is a car that an Indian consumer will drool over. The Carens is based on the stretched version of the Seltos platform. The car is given a clean profile and a very techy look, along with an extended wheelbase. The car is loaded with specs. The Kia Carens will be available in 6 and 7 seater variants. Looking at what’s under the hood, the car will be a very big competition in the market. Kia Carens is powered by a 115hp 1.5-litre engine, both diesel, and petrol. There will also be a 140hp 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine variant. The other tech-loaded features we can see in Carens are the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system eight-speaker Bose sound system. There is also a standout 64-color ambient lighting available. The brand is also offering front ventilated seats and six airbags, and much more. The existing cars such as Ertiga and Innova should watch out for the new trump from Kia.
Jeep has been a brand that has been trying to win over Indian hearts since the launch of the Jeep Compass. The Compass was a success and has earned a lot of recognition since its launch. The brand has been following up with various variants of the Jeep Compass, and this February also, they will be launching their Jeep Compass Trailhawk. It is going to be a bit different from the existing Jeep Compass that we see currently. The brand has mainly aimed to give the car a look and configuration capable enough to go off-road with the new four-wheel-drive system as compared to the standard Compass in the market. There will be more updates in both the exterior and the interior of the car. From the exterior point of view, we can see small changes in the front and rear side bumpers. A more rugged look will be given to the car with some new alloys and accents.
The major difference we can witness in the interior of the car, same as many of the cars in the segment, the new Jeep Compass will also have a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system. To enhance the tech in the car, we can also see a 10.2-inch digital cluster. We can expect the Compass Trailhawk to be the top variant in the Jeep Compass lineup.
Lexus has come through again with the upgraded version of the Lexus NX300h, and boy, are we excited! The luxury vehicle division of the Japanese automaker Toyota, Lexus, recently opened bookings for the all-new NX350h in India. The NX300h was originally launched all the way back in 2017, and now the second-generation SUV will be going on sale in India. The new Lexus NX350h will sport a very different look with a primary focus on a shift in styling with new single-piece headlamps, a larger spindle grille, new bumpers, a longer hood, and new LED tail-lamps connected by a light bar. The styling changes aren’t limited to just the exterior, as the new interior changes do some heavy-lifting as well with a new design, new switchgear, a new touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, and a new steering wheel.
Under the hood, the new Lexus is definitely more powerful than its first-gen counterpart. This version of the NX is powered by a 2.5-litre 192hp Atkinson petrol cycle engine. The engine is coupled with a set of e-motors on the front and rear axles, which gives the SUV a combined output of 244hp in all-wheel-drive form. It will rival the likes of Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Jaguar F-Pace, and Volvo XC60 and will be available in three trims – Exquisite, Luxury, and F-Sport. Truly a vehicle to look forward to!
The Cooper SE, the brand’s first all-electric car introduced globally in 2019, will come to India as a CBU in a single, fully-loaded variant. Bookings for the Cooper SE started in October last year, and in what comes as no shock, the first batch has already sold out! Looks-wise, the upgraded model looks extremely similar to its hatchback counterpart, apart from a new blanked-out front grille with an ‘E’ badge, slightly re-profiled bumpers, yellow accents on the door mirror caps, and a new aerodynamic design for the alloy wheels to mark it out from its ICE sibling.
The interior of the Cooper SE is, again, mostly identical to the standard car. It is powered by a 184hp electric motor with 270Nm torque. It also comes with a 32.6kWh battery mounted beneath the passenger seat. Power is sent to the front wheels only, resulting in a 0-100kph sprint in 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 150kph and has a WLTP-certified range of 235-270km. With an exciting fast-charge feature, it promises to go from 0-80 percent in 35 minutes via a 50kW charge point, while an 11kW wall box can charge it from 0-80 percent in 150 minutes. The Mini Cooper SE will be the most affordable luxury EV when it goes on sale and will not have any direct rivals in India.
