Nissan is a Japanese car maker operating under the aegis of Nissan Motor Corporation. In a bid to strengthen its portfolio of passenger vehicles in India, Nissan is about to launch the ‘Nissan Kicks’. Nissan has gone through a complete branding overhaul. According to this, Nissan will sell cars priced under 10 lakhs with the ‘Datsun’ badge. Cars priced above 10 lakhs will be sold under ‘Nissan’s’ name. Adding fame to the compact SUV segment for Nissan, the Nissan Kicks will be built on BO platform. Nissan also uses this platform for already in sale Nissan Terrano. When launched, Nissan Kicks will face competition with the Hyundai Creta and Ford Ecosport.
The frontal stance of the new Nissan Kicks will feature aggressive linings with a honeycomb grille and LED DRLs. The overall design theme of the Nissan Kicks is inherited from the likes of X-Trail. This compact SUV will also feature floating roof and dual-tone paint job. The car will also feature flared wheel arches, body cladding and large alloy wheels.
The Nissan Kicks is set to get a new layout design for seats and dashboard. We expect Nissan will bring many features in the Nissan Kicks inherited from the Renault Captur. We also expect Nissan will feature more premium appeal to the ‘Kicks’ with all black leather upholstery. Nissan will include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with monitor, flat-bottomed leather-wrapped steering wheel with mounted controls, start/stop button, automatic climate control, an instrument cluster integrated large colour MID and an analogue speedometer.
Nissan’s new compact SUV will offer various storage compartments for keeping your knick-knacks while on a long road trip. A large glove box and bottle holders will also be included within the interiors of the car. The SUV will offer a boot space of 452-litres that can be extended by folding the rear seats. Features such as keyless entry with start/stop ignition system and cruise control will also be included.
|Engine||1.5-litre H4K (Petrol)/ 1.5-litre K9K (Diesel)|
|Maximum Torque||142Nm (Petrol)/ 245Nm (Diesel)|
|Maximum Power||104.5bhp (Petrol)/ 108bhp (Diesel)|
|Gear Box||5-speed MT (Petrol)/ 6-speed MT (Diesel)|
The petrol variant of the Nissan Kicks will be powered by a 105bhp, 1.5-litre unit and the diesel variants will use a 108bhp, 1.5-litre K9K engine. The fuel efficiency of the petrol variant will be around 13.87kmpl and the diesel variant will offer fuel economy of around 20.37kmpl.
We expect the India bound model of Nissan Kicks could feature standard dual-front airbags, ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution) and brake assist and engine immobilizer. Safety features such as Hill launch and descent assist and ESP with traction control are likely to be available only in the top-spec model.
Nissan is expected to price the Nissan Kicks under INR 11 lakhs for the base model and will go up to INR 16 lakhs for the top-end variant. Nissan Kicks SUV was first showcased as a concept at the 2014 Sao Paulo Auto Show in Latin America. The SUV is already on sale in the South American market and is planned to go on sale in over 80 global markets including India. Media reports claim that the launch could take place in the first half of 2019.
