Skoda Kushaq Compact SUV Officially Revealed, Bookings To Commence In June

After being teased endlessly, Skoda has done all of us a favor by officially revealing the Kushaq. This is not only the global debut of the brand’s latest compact SUV, but it is also an integral part of Skoda’s India 2.0 strategy. As we are aware by now, the new Kushaq is constructed around an India-specific MQB-A0-IN platform. Aside from that, the Czech automaker stated that its new car boasts up to 95 percent localization. You know what this means, right? The idea behind increased localization and aggressive market evaluation should help Skoda to price the Kushaq quite competitively.

Skoda Kushaq India

The Skoda Kushaq is expected to be priced from under Rs 10 Lakh (ex-showroom, India), making it an attractive offering. In a segment as rivalry-inducing as this, the Kushaq will go head-to-head with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Tata Harrier, just to name a few. The Kushaq measures 4,225mm in length, 1,760mm in width, and 1,612mm in height – making it a touch smaller than its Korean rivals. However, the Skoda has a trump card to play here with its 2,651mm long wheelbase. This gives it an edge over the others, allowing for more room on the inside.

Skoda says that the Kushaq has an unladen ground clearance of 188mm, whilst boot capacity is 385 liters. Customers will have the option to pick from up to five exterior colors: Brilliant Silver, Candy White, Carbon Steel, Honey Orange, and Tornado Red. Styling is an extremely important part of any compact SUV such as the Kushaq, and thankfully, Skoda hasn’t given it any controversial touches. The overall design is pretty much European and classy in its appeal, without ending up as either bland or distasteful. Upfront, stylish LED running lights underscore the sleek main headlamps while another pair of lights are placed underneath, on the bumper.

Meanwhile, the Skoda grille sits right in the middle and features a chrome surround, furthering the car’s upscale design. The front bumper looks sporty with its faux air vents on the sides and a functional air dam in the middle. At the same time, the clamshell hood with the Skoda badge on the nose looks good, too. Customers can opt for 17-inch alloy wheels which certainly look more appropriate than the 16-inch ones, especially for an SUV this size. The side profile of the Kushaq is quite upright, mostly constituted of well-defined straight lines and sharp angles. Adding a few millimeters to the Kushaq’s height are the silver roof rails on the roof.

Skoda Kushaq rear

The rear of the Kushaq looks stylish and well-executed, albeit a bit cluttered with different elements. There is the sporty roof spoiler, followed by the Skoda lettering on the tailgate, wraparound taillights with another set of lights underneath, a chrome strip underneath the license plate holder flanked by two static reflectors on either side. However, the silver faux skid plate under the rear bumper looks quite nice. Furthermore, the Honey Orange and Tornado Red exterior colors are specific to our market, and they do bring out the personality of the Kushaq well.

Skoda Kushaq interior

As revealed in Skoda’s official sketches earlier, the interior of the Kushaq looks nice and modern. There are multiple textures, colors, and design elements that the automaker has used to make this cabin feel interesting. And for the most part, that has worked really quite well. The Kushaq gets a classy two-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, a widescreen 10-inch touch-infotainment head unit, and side vents at the front that are both large and feature unique styling details. The same applies to the dashboard which sports two different textures and proudly displays the brand name as well. Furthermore, the dual-tone interior color adds to the overall vibe, whilst ambient lighting does its part too.
