Skoda Kushaq To Make Its Global Debut In India On March 18

Compact crossover SUVs perform really well in India, that much everyone knows. What is even more surprising is the fact that the list also includes relatively expensive premium brands. For example, Skoda has long been famous in the country for offering some of the most memorable cars. This definitely takes into account models like the Yeti and the Octavia RS. However, with the age of crossover SUV firmly here, all carmakers have been focusing on launching models within this genre. And why not? They sell like those miniature cupcakes at a busy pastry shop. Going with this belief, the Skoda Kushaq is on its way to having its global unveil in India on March 18, 2021.

The Kushaq boasts a longer wheelbase than the Creta

The Skoda Kushaq will battle it out with cars like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. While these two Koreans have firmly established their grip in the segment, Skoda thinks it has what it takes to loosen that hold. The Kushaq is riding on the brand’s all-new and India-specific MQB-A0 IN platform. One of the most important assets of this Skoda crossover SUV will be its 2,651mm wheelbase. To put that number into perspective, the Korean cousins each boast a wheelbase of 2,610mm – around 40mm less than the Kushaq. In a market where many buyers still love to ride in the back seat, the Kushaq’s longer wheelbase could play a big role.

While we will have to wait for the global unveiling to find out the exact details of the Kushaq’s design, a few things aren’t hard to guess. For instance, we can definitely expect to see slender LED headlamps paired with Skoda’s trademark front grille and sculpted bumpers. Though the test mules did point towards the Kushaq not being as tall as some others, it does get prominent roof rails. Those few extra inches definitely matter, am I right? Given its SUV ambitions, the Kushaq will most definitely feature some amount of body cladding. Meanwhile, the rear will sport stylish LED tail lamps, a roof spoiler, and probably a faux diffuser/exhaust-pipe surrounds.

As for the interior, there again are no proper photos of the Kushaq’s cabin. However, it will come with automatic climate control, cruise control, a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity (and maybe even connected car tech), and leather upholstery. Skoda will equip the Kushaq with several safety features such as multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, ISOFIX anchorages, hill hold assist, plus parking sensors, and a rearview camera. The Kushaq will likely be powered by one of two turbo-petrol engines. Skoda would offer the Kushaq with transmissions ranging from a 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic, and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
