There is no denying that the Skoda Rapid 1.0 TSI is one of its kind. Launched in 5 variants (namely Rider, Ambition, Onyx, Style, and Monte Carlo), the 2020 Skoda Rapid has recently seen a yet another variant- the new Rapid Rider Plus. With a starting price as low as Rs 7.49 lacs and going well up to 11.79 lacs (ex-showroom), it is a no-brainer that any potential buyer would do their research. That’s where it gets tricky. The BS6 compliant Rapid TSI is not only stylish in its design (which too subtly varies with each variant) but also highly performance-oriented. The latest engine is not only fuel-efficient but also provides top-of-the-line speed and acceleration. The 2020 Skoda Rapid comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox or 6-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox paired with a petrol engine that produces 110 Bhp with 175 Nm of torque in all 6 variants. The Skoda Rapid Automatic’s ARAI-rated fuel efficiency or claimed mileage is 16.24kmpl while the manual variant offers 18.97kmpl. The 2020 Rapid sedan is also the most affordable car in the C segment and the base variant offers more features than its rivals Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and VW Vento.

Bookings for the Rapid Automatic have commenced across dealerships as well as on the Skoda Auto India website, for a refundable deposit of Rs 25,000. The deliveries of Rapid Automatic are expected to begin from September 18, 2020.

The Rapid Rider has safety as its most promising feature. At Rs 7.49 lacs (ex-showroom), it comes with dual front airbags, remote central locking, adjustable front seatbelts, and a rear defogger. Conceptually design-oriented, the steel wheels, a fully-fledged audio system with Bluetooth, USB and AUX, rear AC vents, climate control, and 12V charging sockets are only a few of all the comforts offered. It is no wonder the variant was so sought after that the bookings had to be temporarily shut down.

Rider Plus

The Rapid Rider Plus, as the name suggests, is a level up from its predecessor. With a 6.5-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity as an added bonus, it also boasts of a few exterior design upgrades, including two new colour options as well as chrome highlights.

But the question remains, with the Rs 50,000 premium, is it still value for money? Taking into consideration all the variants and their individualistic features, it is safe to say that the Rapid Rider Plus is the most bang for buck variant of the 2020 Skoda Rapid. It is by far the perfect amalgamation of safety, comfort, beautiful features, and value for money out of all the other offerings!

The Rapid Ambition, however pricier than the Rider, is not the most expensive out of the lot. The extra 2 lacs do seem formidable but the Ambition redeems itself with its projector headlights, 15-inch alloy wheels, height adjust features, on-steering wheel audio control, remote-operated windows, and a digital multi-info display among other extras.

The Rapid Onyx, however, doesn’t do justice to the exalted price point in comparison to its other contenders. The extra 20,000 bucks only lend you a few upholstery changes and a handful of exterior finishing touches, making it not vastly different than the others when it comes to individual features.

The Rs 1.30 lacs premium is a huuuuuge amount to commit to when it comes to a vehicle but the Skoda Rapid Style is worth the investment if that’s your price budget! A safe haven with front side airbags it also comes with automatic headlights, a rear parking camera, an 8.0-inch Android touchscreen infotainment system, ambient lighting, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, and all four exterior colours.

Monte Carlo

Akin to its geographical counterpart, the Monte Carlo is pure luxurious beauty at Rs 11.79 lacs. Cosmetically inclined and visually stunning, it is a step up from Style and comes in a choice of two colours, 16-inch alloy wheels, blacked-out grille, and dual front airbags.
