Tata Motors is one of those companies that is constantly tweaking its product portfolio to better suit the market demands. For any automaker, adaptability is extremely vital if it has to survive through an ever-changing landscape. In the case of Tata Motors, the Nexon has been one of its best-selling models. Boasting a fantastic reputation for safety, the Nexon has become a well-known nameplate in the country. However, one of the weaknesses of this compact crossover was that there were just too many trim levels on offer. It seems like Tata Motors has realized that and has made some changes.
As with many such developments, the internet was soon flooded with rumors that Tata Motors is planning to do away with the whole Nexon diesel lineup. Thankfully, the automaker has now released an official statement, which says,
“The Tata Nexon is among the most popular compact SUVs in India, and its diesel variant is very popular with a growing demand and a loyal following. To simplify the choices for its customers, the company has opted to discontinue select variants and introduce updates in others. The Nexon is now available in 20 variants offering customers an exciting product proposition at different price points and the most choice in the compact SUV segment. The Nexon’s range includes 12 variants in petrol and 8 variants in diesel with automatic and manual transmissions options.”
In an effort to consolidate the Nexon lineup, Tata Motors has discontinued a few options. Browsing through the carmaker’s official website, you will notice that the Nexon diesel is no longer available in XE, XMA, XZ, and XZA+ (S) trim levels. With the entry-level XE trim now gone, the next cheapest Nexon diesel is the XM, at Rs 9.49 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The erstwhile XMA trim was the most affordable Nexon diesel with an automated manual gearbox, priced at Rs 10.09 Lakh. However, that place will now be taken up by the XMA (S), which costs Rs 10.61 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Check Out – Tata Nexon No Longer Available In Blue Color
Just in the past few weeks, Tata Motors has made several additions to the Nexon. Firstly, the Nexon is now available with a new 5-spoke alloy-wheel design and an all-new ‘AVA Auto’ feature. The latter is will soon be a fixture of the Tata Nexon’s infotainment system. Ava Auto will essentially integrate support for India-specific dialects such as Bengalish (Bengali + English) and Tamilish (Tamil + English). This new voice assistant feature will allow users to interact with the infotainment system even when there is no internet connection. As for the new alloy wheels, while it is a small update, it will certainly be appreciated by many. Tata Motors had also recently discontinued the Nexon’s famous Tectonic Blue exterior color.
The diesel version of the Tata Nexon is powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder motor that pumps out 108hp and 260Nm of torque. Customers can choose between a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed AMT (automated manual transmission). Meanwhile, the petrol-powered Nexon uses a 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that makes 117hp and 170Nm of torque. It too is available with the same gearbox options as the Nexon diesel. The Tata Nexon’s safety suite includes dual front airbags, Electronic Stability Program, Traction Control System, Hill Hold Control, and Roll Over Mitigation.
