The Tata Nexon was first launched in India back in 2017. Since then, this compact crossover SUV has won several accolades from critics and customers alike. In the past few years, Tata Motors has grown in popularity quite considerably. There was a time when many of their passenger cars were not considered to be that good – quality and desirability were not the automaker’s strong suits. However, those days are long gone. These days, cars such as the Nexon have put Tata Motors at the forefront for buyers in the market.

There is no better way to view the success of a car than to look at its sales numbers. In this regard, the Tata Nexon has achieved a new milestone – 2 lakh units have been produced since 2017. The milestone unit was rolled out of the Indian automaker’s production facility in Ranjangaon, Pune, on June 10, 2021. The previous production milestone of 1.5 lakh units was achieved less than six months ago, in November 2020. This means that the company sold 50,000 units of the Nexon over the period, despite the lockdowns and curbs due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
When you consider the obstacles and challenges faced by Tata Motors in recent times, this feat becomes all the more impressive. For starters, the whole auto industry has been facing an acute shortage of chips, resulting in a tremendous slowdown in vehicle production. Given the sheer volume of vehicles (both passenger and commercial) that Tata Motors manufactures, the shortage of such a vital component has a strong knock-on effect. Furthermore, one also has to also take into consideration the whole global pandemic fiasco that has been raging on for the past year or so.
Interestingly enough, despite all the ruckus in the market, quite a lot of folks have been purchasing new cars. This, in turn, has had a positive effect on how automakers like Tata Motors fare even if odds are stacked against them. One of the cars that have done appreciably well in recent times is the Tata Nexon, so it isn’t surprising to see it hitting such milestones. The crossover SUV has also been praised for its excellent 5-star Global NCAP safety rating – a feat few Indian cars have accomplished. Moreover, Tata Motors has kept the Nexon’s pricing competitive while also adding new features over time.
While the homegrown brand had recently hiked the prices of its cars, the Nexon still retains its competitive advantage. Tata’s smallest SUV offering is currently priced between Rs 7.20 Lakh and Rs 12.96 Lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Meanwhile, engine choices include a 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo-petrol and a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel. The petrol engine in the Nexon produces 117hp and 170Nm of torque, whilst the diesel develops 108hp and 260Nm. Standard gearbox options on the Tata Nexon include a 6-speed AMT and a 6-speed manual transmission.
