Tata, Toyota, And Skoda Take The Lead As The Highest Selling Automakers In March 2022

As we bid the financial year goodbye, it is time to visit what changes it brought with it. The last month of the financial year 2021-22 closed on a happy note. Demand was good and is likely to be that way for the foreseeable future. Aided by the easing of supply chains, automobile wholesale in March reflected a positive month-on-month trend for passenger vehicles.

However, rough times lie ahead for the automotive industry. Multiple factors are threatening to cause massive problems, and at the top of them is the impending global war crisis between Ukraine and Russia. Both the countries can negatively affect supplies and fuel the global crisis, as both of them are important global suppliers. The semiconductor shortage has already torpedoed much of the automotive sales, and this will only add fuel to the fire. The added disadvantage of the skyrocketing global fuel prices is likely to thump even more sales, as fuel prices were increased ten times in the past 12 days (India sits at a whopping 112.163 Rs./L).

On a good note, however, India’s passenger vehicle (PV) sales crossed the 3 million-unit mark in FY2022. FY2022 witnessed a 12 percent increase in automobile sales. This is especially great news because this is the first time in four years the industry has crossed the 3-million mark.

As for the month of March, Tata Motors, Toyota Kirloskar, and Skoda Auto were the top contenders. They not only showed the most growth but also set their highest ever monthly sales this month. Things weren’t as good for Maruti and Hyundai, as both reported a significant decrease in passenger vehicle sales.

Let’s have a look at the figures for some of the most prominent carmakers in the country:
