Toyota Urban Cruiser To Launch Tomorrow

Recently, we told you that actor Ayushmann Khurana has been roped in as the brand ambassador for the Toyota Urban Cruiser. Well, the upcoming sub-compact SUV is finally just a day from its launch as it would step into the highly competitive segment tomorrow. As we’ve said, the new model is based on the Maruti Vitara Brezza and this cross-badging is in accordance with the partnership between Suzuki and Toyota. In fact, we’ve already seen Toyota doing something similar with the Maruti Baleno and retailing it from its dealership as the Toyota Glanza.

Cosmetically, the Toyota Urban Cruiser looks close to the Maruti Vitara Brezza, with the only difference arising between the upcoming model and the donor car coming from the new grille and an updated bumper. The former will look close to what we get on the Fortuner and should work well to give the Urban Cruiser a unique distinct identity. Even the new bumper looks a tad better and has new foglamp housings. Moreover, we feel that the Fortuner-inspired grille should help the new model attract more buyers due to the high popularity enjoyed by the Fortuner. The interior remains largely unchanged except for new seat upholstery and Toyota branding on the steering wheel and the touchscreen infotainment unit.

Powering the new Toyota Urban Cruiser will be the same engine as that of the Maruti Vitara Brezza. It will belt out an identical maximum power of 104 PS and a peak torque of 138 Nm. Again, like the Maruti Vitara Brezza, the Toyota Urban Cruiser will go on sale with two transmission choices- 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic. That said, while the SHVS mild-hybrid technology is only available on the automatic transmission variant of the Brezza, the Urban Cruiser will get this fuel-saving technology on both manual and automatic options.

Another thing that is important to mention here is that unlike the Toyota Glanza, which is on sale in G and V variants corresponding to Zeta and Alpha high-end trims of the Maruti Baleno, the Urban Cruiser will offer more choices as its Mid, High, and Premium trims will be equivalent to the VXI, ZXI and ZXI+ trims of the Maruti Vitara Brezza. It’s only that no variant corresponding to the base-level LXI trim of the Maruti Vitara Brezza will be on offer. Also, the Toyota Urban Cruiser will be sold with 3 year/1,00,000 km warranty, which is better than 2 year/40,000 km standard warranty on the Maruti Vitara Brezza.
