Toyota Urban Cruiser has finally gone on sale in the country. The new model has already been available for pre-bookings and the new model has gone on sale at a starting price of Rs 8.40 lakh (ex-showroom). As we’ve been saying, the Urban Cruiser is nothing but a rebadged Maruti Vitara Brezza, much like how the Toyota Glanza is essentially a Maruti Baleno.
Compared to the Maruti Vitara Brezza, the Toyota Urban Cruiser looks a tad more premium with a Fortuner-inspired grille. Even the fog lamp housings seem to have been inspired by those on the Fortuner. Clearly, the company wants the magical popularity of the Fortuner to benefit its new entry-level SUV. In fact, the carmaker even mentioned at the time of the launch that the Urban Cruiser is a smaller sibling of the Toyota Fortuner, all thanks to the similar grille it sports.

Inside, the Toyota Urban Cruiser comes kitted out with a 7-inch touchscreen display that is basically the same Smartplay Studio unit available on the Brezza. It’s a fairly intuitive model that offers both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other than this, it also provides users with Bluetooth connectivity and a smartphone-based navigation feature. Also, the Urban Cruiser’s cabin looks a tad more premium than that of the Brezza due to the usage of a dual-tone colour theme. Some of the other key features of the Toyota Urban Cruiser interior include:
Toyota Urban Cruiser | |
Variant | Price* |
Mid-Grade MT | INR 8.40 lakh |
Mid-Grade AT | INR 9.80 lakh |
High-Grade MT | INR 9.15 lakh |
High-Grade AT | INR 10.65 lakh |
Premium-Grade MT | INR 9.80 lakh |
Premium-Grade AT | INR 11.30 lakh |
Unlike the Toyota Glanza, which comes in just G and V grade corresponding to Zeta and Alpha trims of Maruti Baleno, the Toyota Urban Cruiser is available in Mid, High, and Premium grades corresponding to VXI, ZXI, and ZXI+ variants. This will ensure affordability and hence, a higher number of Brezza buyers steering towards the Urban Cruiser. Also, while the Maruti Vitara Brezza comes with a 2 years/40000 km standard warranty, the Urban Cruiser offers a 3 years/100000 km warranty.
Powering the new Toyota Urban Cruiser will be the same motor as the Brezza, which means it will get its juice from a 1.5-litre K-Series engine that belts out 104 PS and 138 Nm. Like on the Brezza, the Urban Cruiser will be sold with a 5-speed manual transmission and a 4-speed automatic unit. SHVS will be available on both transmission variants, which is unlike Maruti’s strategy to offer the mild-hybrid technology only on the automatic variant.
