Tata has recently updated its design language to bring advanced looking vehicles in the Indian car market. Tata Motors launched the Tata Tiago in 2016 to address the demand for a small and compact hatchback in India. As a second generation of ‘Tiago’, Tata is set to launch the EV version of Tiago by the end of 2018. Tata revealed the electric version of Tiago at Millbrook, UK, in September, 2017. Under the hood, Tata Tiago will be powered by a liquid-cooled 85kW electric motor. This motor will develop a maximum torque of 200Nm. The Tata Tiago EV can clock a top speed of 135 kmph. This hatchback from Tata Motors is a front-wheel drive with a single-speed gearbox. Like many other EVs, the power is to weight ratio on the Tata Tiago will be different from petrol or diesel powered cars. With a total curb-weight of 1040 kg, the hatchback is almost 20 kgs lighter than the presently available Tiago. The acceleration on this promising offering is expected to be 0-100 kmph in 11 seconds.

The second car on our list of upcoming electric cars in India is the ‘Tata Tigor EV’. Sharing its platform with the Tiago, the Tata Tigor EV is rumoured to be powered by an 85 kW electric motor. The sedan is expected to weigh 200 kg less than the petrol/diesel variant of the Tata Tigor. The Tata Tigor EV is expected to have more than 130 km per charge range. The car is expected to arrive on the Indian soil later in 2018.

According to a report, Renault is working on a Kwid-based electric vehicle to be launched in the Chinese car market. Renault plans to monitor the demand for this small hatchback in China. If the low-cost EV recites its success story in the dragon land, then Renault will plan to export the car to the Indian soil also. The Renault Kwid is already a success in the small car segment.
