Will Toyota bring the Epic and Epic Black Fortuner to India

Toyota has revealed the new Fortuner Epic and Epic Black in international markets. Available in South Africa, the new Fortuner variant is only available with the 2.8-liter diesel engine and receive additional cosmetic upgrades over the standard Fortuner. Epic Editions essentially replace the previously sold standard 2.8-liter diesel Fortuner – this engine is now only available with Toyota Fortuner Epic Editions.

Fortuner Epic models include the addition of a nudge bar with an Epic badge branding upfront and a tow bar on the back. Inside, the cabin receives more subtle changes, such as metallic scuff plates and the Epic telephone branded floor mats. The Fortuner Epic Black additionally features a black-out roof, wing mirrors, nudge bar, and new design alloy wheels.

On the device front, the two Epic Editions get all the kits from the outgoing 2.8 diesel model with LED headlamps, auto climate control, electronic driver’s seat, cruise control, rearview camera, and touchscreen infotainment system.

As mentioned above, the Epic and Epic Black Editions are rear-wheel drive and not All Wheel Drive with a 177 hp, 2.8-liter diesel engine. The 6-speed automatic gearbox is standard and the manual gearbox option is not available.

Unlike the India-spec Fortuner, the model for sale in South Africa gets a choice of two diesel engines. The smaller 2.4-liter unit – used in India’s Innova Crysta – is available in cheaper variants. A 2.7-liter petrol engine option is also available.

Over the past few months, Toyota has upgraded the Fortuner to meet the new BS6 emission standards. In recent weeks, the carmaker has revealed its sales numbers for the month of March in India; And its Etios model lineup and the Corolla Altis have been announced to be on the market. The company began work on a mid-cycle upgrade on Fortuner that could see the world premiere later this year.

Will Toyota get the Epic and Epic Black Fortuner to India? We believe this will be a big hit among Indian car consumers who have been buying big SUVs more than ever.
