BMW i3 summary

A sporty curved steering column, 5.7-inch TFT colour data acquisition system, and a high-definition 10.25-inch navigation system with iDrive linked Drive as well as Apple CarPlay are all standard. The seats and trimmings are recycled polyethylene and plant-based fibres, reinforcing the hatch's environmental credentials. The i3s is equipped with stability analysis control, dynamically traction control, a rearview camera, parking aid, and active cruise control for further safety.

The BMW i3s costs £36,975 (Rs 33.10 lakh) in Britain, and it contrasts with the Nissan Leaf, Chevrolet Bolt, and Hyundai Ioniq, both of which are not accessible in the Indian market at the moment.

The i3's interior, on the other hand, is significantly more luxurious than its competitors, particularly with the optional concave dashboard as well as leather-and-wool upholstery. The sustainability of the i3 is in doubt as the electric vehicle movement gathers traction, with BMW producing more competitive vehicles such as the forthcoming i4 sedan but also iX SUV.

The i3 pulls strongly, smoothly, and linearly thanks to its one-speed direct-drive gearbox. It's also a reasonably short ride. The 2017 i3 we tested travelled from 0 to 60 mph roughly in 6.6 seconds. The ordinary i3 and the spicier i3s both accelerate quickly and feel nimble around town.

The i3's 42.2-kWh charging dock, rated at 153 miles of all-electric driving quality, pales in comparison to the Bolt EV's 60.0-kWh battery and 259-mile EPA rating. With its largest battery, the Model 3 can go up to 353 miles. Even so, the i3 is the only car with an optional gasoline-fueled range-extender generator that kicks in when the battery drops below 5% charge.

With its dramatic styling aspects, all-terrain characteristics, and acceleration, Jeep vehicles have strong brand equity in India's combination sports electric vehicle sector. On our motorway fuel-economy route, the all-electric i3s we evaluated averaged 102 MPGe, which was in line with its EPA rating. A 2019 i3 with the gas-powered larger battery completed our real-world circuit; however, it fell short of the EPA-rated 100 MPGe by 6.

Eight-way power adjusts passengers seat, leather seating in various textures, 7-inch full-colour driver head-up display, an entertainment system with 8.4" full-colour touchscreen interface, and 9-speaker ambient sound system would be highlights of the interiors. All-road capabilities are standard, select terrain administration, surround protective airbags, and a parking help system.

Even though many plug-in hybrid electric vehicles include large screens with touch capabilities and a plethora of data, the 2021 BMW i3 adopts a more straightforward approach. BMW's iDrive 6 navigation system is standard on all i3 variants. Apple CarPlay is included as standard; however, Android Auto is not. There are no power outlets in the car, and there is just one USB connector in the front centre console.

BMW's tiny electric vehicle has become a popular choice in foreign markets, with a 280-kilometre range. The BMW i3, the Bavarian carmaker's all-electric vehicle, was introduced at the 2018 Auto Expo. The i3s' full unveiling report can be found here. It has an energy output of 184PS and a range of 280km thanks to a 33kWh battery. It accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in under 6.9 seconds.

A six-speed torque converter delivers 249Nm of maximum torque with a 2.4 litre, multiple MultiAir naturally aspirated engine with 177BHP on hand and just a nine-speed six-speed automatic. The type with a 2.0 litre, four-cylinder turbo diesel engine that can then be tuned to deliver 136 or 165 performance would be the one that Indians will be intrigued in. This car comes with a six-speed manual and perhaps a nine-speed computerised powertrain.

The BMW i3s sports a futuristic front with a shiny black kidney grille and a flurry of LED components, such as the U-shaped LED headlights and LED turn indicators. The side profile, which has 20-inch light wheel bearings and a glass B-pillar, is striking. The suicide doors, similar to those found on Rolls Royces, which BMW also owns, are the show-stopper. The big diffuser-shaped bumpers and the glass-enclosed LED tail lights, for example, provide a unique touch to the design. In terms of the interiors, the i3s are well-designed.

BMW i3 PRO’s & CON’s

  • Things We Like
  • Things we don’t like

A spacious and comfortable car.

Operation and preservation costs expenditures are low.

In a contingency, the REVive function can assist extended range.

The diesel engine yields a lot of low-ending torque.

Dampers that are agile and advanced absorb collisions nicely.

The range is limited to 140 km.

At this pricing, there aren't many features.

Only the motorist's airbag is required.

After 3400rpm, there isn't much movement.

The soft suspension arrangement makes it less manoeuvrable in bends.

There is no way to modify the driver's seat height.

The 2021 BMW i3 has outstanding aesthetics, but it falls short when it comes to becoming an electric vehicle. For comparable pricing, other EVs such as the Tesla Model 3, Chevrolet Bolt EV, and Hyundai Kona Electric have bigger batteries and longer driving ranges. If the i3's appearance appeals to you and its restricted driving range matches your needs, 2021 may be your final chance to drive one home. For 2021, BMW has made only one modification to the i3 lineup: adaptive LED headlights, which were previously an option, are now standard. BMW has confirmed that the i3 will be discontinued in 2021.

The i3s is supposed to be more enjoyable to drive, but we'd go with the cheapest option. We'd go with the Giga World package, despite the limited number of selections outside of exterior and interior colours. It has Apple CarPlay connectivity, a heated steering wheel, and navigation, in addition to the unusual brown leather and grey fabric interior.

The BMW i3s is one automobile that is difficult to miss even in a crowd. The compact electric vehicle on display at the event will be on sale in the Domestic and International market and is even being used by police forces in Dubai, the Czech Republic, Ireland, and Germany for routine patrolling operations. However, no official date has been set for its arrival in India.
