The X7 is offered in both petrol and diesel fuel types.

BMW X7 PRO’s & CON’s

  • Things We Like
  • Things we don’t like

The X7 is the ideal combination of athleticism and opulence.

The X7 looks highly elegant and has an unmatched level of road presence. Plus, while the enormous kidney grille may look a bit out of place on a 7 Series, on this enormous SUV, it appears to be a more natural match.

Upscale cabin, the quality of materials used is top-notch, in line with the car's price tag. Loads of creature comfort features are available as well.

The large, well-cushioned seats are highly comfortable. The motorized recline and fore/aft movement controls make it simple to achieve the perfect seating position; there's also plenty of legroom.

The last row of seats is quite usable. And, thanks to a 5-zone climate control system, everyone gets their own temperature setting.

All the engines on the X7 offer a lot of oomph. A spectacular 400 hp diesel is available as well.

The 50d X7 is in supercar territory in terms of performance. For a 2.5-tonne SUV, 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds is incredibly impressive.

Great body control for such a high-riding SUV.

Interior as quiet as a library. The entire ambiance is comparable to that of the 7 Series.

The dashboard design won't wow you. Moreover, it looks similar to cheaper BMW vehicles.

The ride quality isn't as plush as the GLS.

The top of the line M50 d at Rs 1.73 cr is way too expensive.

Standard engines are the same as that of the X5. So, the price difference looks too much.

Cayenne is more fun to drive.

Power folding rear seats are pretty slow.

Lacks features in the second row - no massage, no ventilation. A Volvo XC90 offers the same.

The digital dials, including a speedometer and a counterclockwise tachometer, look controversial.

BMW's latest flagship SUV is the X7. It's the largest SUV to bear the BMW badge, and it needs to be because it has three rows of seats. If you see one in the metal, you'll know it's not a stretched X5. The X7 has a more imposing appearance because of its higher bonnet line and much longer rear overhang. Its massive proportions and conspicuous grilles disguise a remarkably quiet and pleasant cabin. There's an instant sense of familiarity at the front. The X7's luxurious interior is nicely crafted, packs state-of-the-art technology, and boasts immense space. The interior draws inspiration from the smaller BMW X5 SUV and the luxury 7-series. The X7 stays loyal to BMW's DNA, with superb turbocharged engine options hidden under the three-row SUV's large kidney grille. The X7's air suspension is comfortable in Comfort mode and tight in Sport and Sport Plus mode. In town, the X7's size can be intimidating, but the various cameras and auto park feature come in helpful.

When compared to other luxury SUVs in the same price point, the X7 stands above the rest with its sheer blend of comfort and performance. The overall ambiance and comfort of the cabin is at par with the 7 series, and a 0-100 kph time of 5.4sec for a 460kg SUV puts it in the supercar territory.

BMW SUVs have a reputation for taking the word "sport" in Sport Utility Vehicle very literally. Buyers who prefer being behind the wheel would appreciate upgrading to the 400 hp quad-turbo diesel engine on the M50d. When you floor the throttle on dry asphalt, you'll quickly feel the engine's full power. The X7 accelerates like a raging gorilla, and the full-bodied exhaust noise certainly sounds like one. It has the sensation of free-revving petrol and is content to rev above 5,000rpm before the exquisite 8-speed auto kicks in with an upshift. The X7 isn't as light or agile as a smaller SUV, but it's willing to shift directions. The X7's fuel efficiency ranges from 10.54 to 13.38 kilometers per liter.

In more ways than one, the BMW X7 is a significant vehicle. The X7 is ideal for families looking for a large three-row SUV with a premium cabin and Bavarian heritage. The BMW is a pleasant place to spend time, with quality materials and numerous conveniences.
