Hindustan Motors History
Hindustan Motors was established in India by Mr. BM Birla in collaboration with Lord Nuffield of Morris Motors. The company came into existence in the year 1942, at Baroda (Gujarat), but the manufacturing plant was shifted to West Bengal in the year 1948. After the relocation, the production began for the Morris designed ‘Ambassador’ or ‘Amby’ - India’s most successful car of that era.
The launch of Ambassador was followed by many ventures and collaboration of the company with international brands, such as General Motors and Mitsubishi. When the company stopped production of its home car, Ambassador, in 2014, the used Hindustan Motors car continued to sell and the company continued to trade Mitsubishi even after that, something the company still does.
In 2017, the company got into a formal agreement with French Automaker PSA Group regarding the sale of Ambassador. With this all going, Hindustan Motors is all set to make a comeback in the Indian market by the next year.
