Honda CR-V summary

In 2003, Honda introduced its premium offering in the SUV segment with CR-V in India. It was the second-generation vehicle of the line. The carmaker subsequently launched the third, fourth, and fifth-generation versions. The car was regularly facelifted, adding features very specific to CR-V. This was to make sure that the SUV stayed ahead of its rivals at all times.

CR-V was Honda’s confident bet in the SUV segment, and its sales numbers were pretty steady. However, the closure of the Delhi plant forced the South Korean manufacturer to pull back CR-V from the Indian market. The model was discontinued in 2020. In the used car market, though, CR-V is turning out to be a solid choice.

The fifth-generation CR-V is available in three engines – a 2WD petrol automatic (CVT) and two diesel engines (9AT AWD and 9AT 2WD). With the presence of real-time AWD, the SUV doesn’t feel fragile against bumps. Furthermore, it has adequate ground clearance to tackle speed-breakers while cruising through city traffic.

In a first, Honda fixed CR-V with a 1.6L DOHC i-DTEC diesel turbo engine, whipping up a power output of 120 bhp and 300 Nm torque, coupled with an automatic transmission of 9 speed. Both the engines lag the rivals in terms of power. But then, Honda is more about stability and comfort.

The fuel efficiency of the vehicle at 19.5 kmpl for the diesel variant and 14.4 kmpl for petrol ones. In terms of mileage, CR-V surpasses its rivals by a fair degree.

Honda CR-V EXPERT REVIEWS

CR-V is one of the first entries in India’s SUV landscape. It has been constantly compared against its rivals such as Fortuner and Endeavor. Honda did a fantastic job of keeping its SUV brand updated with regular facelifts. This made sure that CR-V stayed ahead of its competitors until Honda pulled the plug on it. CR-V has always eased past its rivals on multiple fronts, barring a few such as power output. CR-V could easily be rated as one of the top three SUVs.

The 5-seater SUV is perfect for a mid-size family. Its spacious cabin and generous legroom make the ride a buttery experience. The diesel variant comes with +2 seating option, which is the best option for small children. CR-V fixed multiple charging ports to take care of every device within the car.

The pricing of this premium SUV is pretty competitive. With the segment-best mileage and easy maintenance, CR-V won’t burn holes in pockets. It is ideal for both maneuvering through the heavy traffic for the daily commute or for long-distance vacations.

Honda’s stubborn decision to stick to its proven engines instead of industry-famous turbo engines tells you that CR-V was designed for performance. Hence, it is the most obvious choice for a family ride. With such mindfully added safety features, CR-V is built for a safe riding experience.

It is really unfortunate that such a well-performing car had to be pulled off the market. We really hope that Honda finds a way to re-introduce the model in the market, but with better specs.

If comfort, luxury, and stability are on the top of your must’ve listed, then CR-V is the SUV to pick from the market.
