Hyundai Verna PRO’s & CON’s

  • Things We Like
  • Things we don’t like

The Verna has a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine under the hood with a 120bhp, with the Verna line-up having a comparable-sized NA petrol AND diesel engine, diesel version with an automatic transmission.

Hyundai Verna is an ideal car for shorter men and women. The Verna is the least stressful in heavy traffic as one can drive at reasonable speeds.

Verna is more than 100mm shorter than the City but has the same wheelbase and with the swooping roofline, making it look athletic and raring to go.

The refinement of a naturally aspirated inline-four cylinder engine feels very surefooted at high speedand can manage both spirited driving and relaxed highway cruising with ease, giving a quality ride, with improved composure around bumpy corners. The Verna is at par with other competing brands in this segment when it comes to creature comforts.

Safety features includea super sturdy body structure and 6 airbags to assure the safety of everyone within the cabin, cornering lamps to aid in driving on difficult roads, and an emergency stop signal.

The disadvantage of the Hyundai Verna is that the petrol engine does not give as much mileage as the diesel version, especially in cities.

Backseat space is less, less legroom and headroom.

The cost of maintenance is higher. Another brand of Hyundai Creta provides more value for money. Verna’s facelift is not much, apart from a few features; the basic design elements remain the same.

Ground clearance in Verna is not much, complaints from customers that the chassis touches the ground and so increases the possibility of damage to the car.

At a summary glance, the Verna offers an astounding eleven variants with a wide range of pricing, spread across two petrol and one diesel engine options. Starting at Rs 9.31 lakh for the entry-level petrol and Rs 10.65 lakh for the entry-level diesel, it goes all the way up to Rs 13.99 lakh for the fully-loaded 1-litre turbo-petrol variant. The Honda City is closest in terms of price and features (except for the turbo-petrol variant) to the Hyundai Verna, and the choice depends on what you’re looking for. Fully equipped with Smart Trunk features, paddle shifters on the steering wheel, wireless phone charger and electronic sunroof, the new Verna is a car lover's dream-made reality.

For drivers who want a simple sedan that can comfortably fit four people every day and can easily accommodate luggage as well for the occasional out-of-town trip, the City is the best option. On the other hand, for those avant-garde drivers looking for a sedan that gives off a ‘professional yet athletic vibe, without sacrificing performance for comfort, the Verna is a wise choice.

Since its initial launch in 2006, the Verna is one of the oldest nameplates in the Hyundai portfolio. It has evolved so much since then — both in the way it looks and the way it drives. The Verna looks sporty, feels sharp and is the perfect car for your first post-lockdown road trip.
