The all-new Jaguar E-Pace is an absolute stunner.

Unlike what trends might mislead you to believe, the ‘E’ does not stand for electrically powered. The E Pace is a classic SUV crossover, a smaller version of the Jaguar F-Pace. Measuring about 4.4–4.5 metres long, it shares its platform with the Land Rover Discovery Sport or the Range Rover Evoque. This car gets a transverse front-mounted engine with a six-speed manual and a nine-speed ZF transmission. It is a new transmission built specifically for transverse applications, predominantly front-wheel-drive applications. The most significant thing about the new E Pace is the first front-wheel-drive from Jaguar since the X-type.

The Jaguar E Pace is powered by the modular, four-cylinder Ingenium range of Jaguar’s engine, with 200 metric horsepower. When driving, the road noise and the wind noise is the bare minimum, and also, the refinement levels are pretty good. As for the insides, you know what they say—when you get inside a Jaguar, it feels like a Jaguar.

The E Pace is currently available only in one variant—a 1999 cc diesel engine with a manual transmission type. The SUV crossover is priced at Rs. 45 Lakh. As far as the colour options are concerned, Jaguar gives you nine options—black, grey, blue, caldera red, Indus silver, Firenze red, Fuji white, Yulong white, and Corris grey.

In the Indian markets, it competes with cars like the Skoda Kodiaq, Audi Q2, Kia Carnival, Mercedes-Benz AMG A 35, and MG Gloster.

Jaguar E Pace PRO’s & CON’s

  • Things We Like
  • Things we don’t like

Even base models of the E Pace run on four-cylinder engines that generate 246 horsepower and has 269 pound-feet of torque. As for speed, it can run as fast as 149 mph, which gives it the ability to accelerate to 60 mph in just 6.1 seconds.

For an SUV as small as the E Pace, a storage space of 24.2 cubic feet behind the second row is quite generous. Also, you get to fold the second-row seat, which increases this space to 52.7 cubic feet.

Can you believe that you get to control many things in the infotainment system with your voice? The voice control gives this car a futuristic feel.

The infotainment system is as advanced as you could expect it to be.

It’s equipped with a Meridian Sound system—the best you could expect. It comes with 20 speakers strategically placed around the cabin to give you a holistic experience.

A backseat entertainment package is also available to keep your passengers busy on road trips.

The back seat is tiny. The second row feels a little tight, with 35.1 inches of legroom and 38.3 inches of headroom. Tall people might find it uneasy to stretch.

The Jaguar E Pace is a little slow when it comes to downshifting.

This crossover SUV is a noisy vehicle compared to its contemporaries.

It's a Jaguar. Not only is the vehicle expensive, but also its spare parts.

Since your vehicle shall be so dearly bought, you would not want to get it overhauled at stations other than the ones authorised by Jaguar.

Winds and noise from neighbouring cars can all be heard inside the cabin.

Jaguar E Pace IMAGES

The Jaguar E Pace is a classic crossover SUV.

It has got a swooping dashboard which separates the driver from the passenger. By and large, the interiors are pleasing enough. There is enough space in the back loads of storage cubbies: big door pockets, big bin.

The Jaguar E Pace gets a 1999 cc engine with 148 BHP and manual transmission in its diesel variant. The maximum power capacity of 148 bhp @ 3500 rpm and a maximum torque of 380 Nm @ 1750 rpm make it a lucrative option. Not to forget, you get world-class interiors with a luxurious Jaguar to feel and loads of safety features.

The E Pace has the perfect blend of ride and handling. However, if you come with the expectation of Jaguar saloon dynamics, you most likely shall be disappointed. It steers pretty nicely, but when you lean on it in a corner, it leads onto the front and outside tyres a bit. Then as you lift it, it gets a sort of diagonal pitch. It’s pretty good for a car of this type, but a saloon car will always be a dynamically only thing.

The ride quality is okay; it is a bit brittle around the town. It’s a small car, and styling it aggressively might make it look like an angry jelly baby.

If you want a car that looks like a Jaguar and feels pretty much like a Jaguar, and it certainly is a Jaguar inside, the E Pace might be the best buy for you.
