The Jaguar XJ has a very distinct personality to its German rivals. With the all-new BMW 7-series in markets, the Jaguar XJ is now India's oldest full-size luxury sedan, although, Jaguar has refreshed the car.
Jaguar XJ has undergone revised styling on the outside, a few upgrades on the interiors, and a reworked engine to keep it in the reckoning. The car’s shape is long, low and swooping like no other car in its segment. So, in a way, it’s good that the exterior styling has barely been tampered with. The only differences are a new design for the chrome blade in the front bumper, a blackened out lower section in the rear bumper, and new oval tailpipes. The XJ gets innovative full LED headlamps with new double J blade signature daytime running lights on this top-spec portfolio trim.
In India, the Jaguar XJ is available in three variants—3.0L Premium Luxury (2993 cc 6-cylinder engine), 2.0L Portfolio (1999 cc 6-cylinder engine), and the XJ50 (2993 cc 6-cylinder engine). The lowest model is priced at Rs. 1.03 crores (ex-showroom), the highest at Rs. 1.11 crores (ex-showroom). As far as the colour options are concerned, it comes in seven colours—Fuji White, Yulong White Metallic, Corris Grey Metallic, Loire Blue Metallic, Rosello Red Metallic, Santorini Black Metallic and Farallon Black.
In India, the Jaguar XJ competes with BMW X3 M, Land Rover Discovery, Mercedes Benz GLE, Jaguar F-Type and Land Rover Range Rover Sport.

The Jaguar XJ has a responsive suspension, completely absorbing bumps or shocks. You will be able to take sharp turns at high speed without drift or vibration.
It gives you an All-Wheel Drive option, which is rare in sedans. This option gives you excellent traction and steering response when faced with hairpin turns or low-gear acceleration.
The Jaguar XJ has elegant interior styling—high-quality leather, complemented with bright chrome, sharply lit digital instrument panel, ambient lighting, and much more.
It allows you to reprogram all the digital instrument indicators to suit the driver’s needs.
Extensive customisation lets you make your XJ as feature-loaded as you can.
The XJ has lightweight aluminium construction, which helps it achieve slightly better mileage.
A well-built frame and low drag give it exceptional handling.
Unlike most up-level sedans, the Jaguar XJ lacks lane departure and a surround-view camera.
It also lacks an automatic braking system for collision alert, which is standard across most modern cars.
As for the interiors, some mainstream luxury features are missing. You will notice many touchscreen controls and customised entertainment options. Many cars that cost half as much have better entertainment features and more customisable controls. As such, it’s not justified to pay for the brand value of Jaguar.
When speaking of brand name costs, it’s obligatory to mention that overhauling and maintenance of your vehicle will cost you a little extra. Spare parts will also come expensive.
As far as a luxury sedan is concerned, the Jaguar XJ is an absolute stunner.
You still get that old-world charm in the cabin—the rotary gear lever rises to welcome you onboard. But what will catch your eye is the new infotainment system. It’s Jaguar’s InControl Pro unit, and it’s a whole lot better than the outgoing one. It offers you many features, connects easily to your phone, and provides control over the massage function and seat control for each of the chairs.
In addition, Jaguar has upgraded the screen to a more sophisticated unit. You can even choose between three themes. The legroom and headroom are not the best in class but are still more than sufficient. The rear screens can be folded shut when you don’t need them. It can go from zero to a hundred km/hour in 6.5 seconds, which is no joke for a full-size, luxury-loaded sedan.
As for the engine refinement, its engine is not the quietest in the class. Also, the low-speed power delivery is not very smooth. Power tends to rush in, so the driver needs to measure how much throttle they give. The eight-shift gearbox can also hesitate with downshifts at times.
For the XJ, Jaguar has ditched the hydraulic steering for a more energy-efficient electric setup, which is excellent in field, weight, and accuracy. Jaguar has also opted for a smaller rim size and higher-profile rubber. Modern-day royalty sprawled out in the back is pampered with marginally better ride quality.
Overall, the Jaguar XJ stands out as the emotional choice among full-size luxury sedans.
