Maruti Dzire summary

The Maruti Dzire was first launched in India in 2008, and it was inspired by its hatchback version, the Maruti Swift. Maruti has sold more than 20lakhs units of the Dzire in India itself, and it does not intend on slowing down. The numbers are still consistent, with almost 1.5 lakh units per month.

It has had three generations, the current one being the third. All three generations have had significant changes while comparing to the previous versions. The third version has brought in a huge difference in its physical appearance giving it a distinct character.

The third generation comes with only a K12N, 1197 cc dual jet petrol engine which is second to none. It produces 90bhp power and 113 nm of torque.

It comes in two transmissions being AMT Auto and Manual. The AMT Auto versions get the hill hold feature which is of great utility for beginners and experienced drivers.

This has been Maruti’s best-selling car, even outranking the Alto, which is one of its most affordable cars and is the go-to choice of beginner drivers and first-time car owners.

The production of the first generation of Dzires ended in 2012, and it was renamed to Dzire tour and was produced for another couple of years, gradually paving the way for its newer variants.

India’s favourite compact sedan comes to town packed with mind-blowing features and a classy new look. Yes, it’s the third generation Maruti Dzire, third generation. This new variant gets a brand new engine which shows significant improvement in performance from its older versions.

It gets a K12N dual jet engine, which is faster, smoother, and a whole lot quieter with nearly no vibrations. It produces a whopping 90bhp power and 113 nm of torque. It is the most spacious sedan in its segment, even beating its higher-priced competitors. It offers ample legroom, especially in the rear seat.

The new version also comes with a fresh set of interiors which is just as welcoming and aesthetically pleasing as its older versions. Even the base models get faux wood trims on the interiors and on the steering wheel. But don’t go just by the looks. The elegant interior packs in a lot of features like automatic climate control, a 7inch infotainment system equipped with Maruti’s Smart Play Studio, an analogue plus digital speedometer, handrests, cupholders, and much more.

The Maruti Dzire comes in seven different variants, but it comes only in petrol options. It offers two types of transmissions, AMT Auto and the classic Manual. The first-in-class automatic start and stop feature is one to look out for. The car automatically stops while at a signal or while you are stuck in traffic, and it jumps back to life by just stepping on the accelerator or clutch.

This new feature is going to increase the mileage significantly. Maruti packs all these within 6 to 9 lakhs ex showroom. The main competitors of the Dzire are Honda Amaze, Hyundai Aura, and Ford Aspire.

Maruti Dzire PRO’s & CON’s

  • Things we don’t like

Exterior features include adjustable headlights, front fog lights, power-adjustable rear view mirrors, stylish alloy wheels, rear window defogger, side antenna, projector headlamps, and the trendy new Bulgan Beard Grill which gives it a slight appearance of an Audi. All the lights, headlights, tail lights and DRLs, are LED.

The Hyundai Aura has a better engine performance and better feedback, and also it has a diesel and a few CNG options.

Talking about the safety features of the Dzire, it comes with two airbags, abs, child safety locks, anti-theft, and hill hold control.

The interior displays a dual-tone finish altogether. Beige and Black. The interiors are very pleasing and welcoming and give out a spacious and comfortable vibe. It gets a faux wood finish throughout the interiors and the steering wheel, well-cushioned seats, a partly analogue and digital speedometer, tachometer, and the 7inch infotainment system.

The most exciting feature introduced in the Dzire is the automatic start and stop element, which contributes to its excellent mileage figures. This function automatically turns off the engine when the vehicle is stopped for a prolonged period, like at signals or in slow traffic, and it turns back on once you engage the vehicle. Dzire is the only vehicle to introduce this feature in this segment.

The significant advantage that Maruti Dzire has over its rivals is its spacious interiors. The 2450mm wheelbase allows it to have luxurious interiors like the ones you find on some of its higher-priced competitors.

It is the best choice for a 5 person family looking to upgrade to a sedan on a budget without compromising the features of a high-end vehicle.

It provides excellent road grip, immense ride quality, an engaging engine, petrol engine refinement, and great mileage.

The disadvantages of Dzire to its competitors are its performance and the unavailability of a diesel engine or a CNG variant.

Overall the Maruti Dzire is one of the best compact sedans available in India today, at a more affordable price than its competitors. The overall ride experience of the Dzire is pretty good with its comfortable and pleasing interiors and an engaging new engine under its hood. It is an excellent choice for an extended family trip or people who travel long distances frequently and do not want to lose out on performance and comfort.

The selling factor of the Dzire is hands down, the spacious, luxurious interiors and its new and improved look. It is highly recommended for people with simpler tastes and elegant features. Even though vehicles in this segment beat the Dzire in performance, we would say it’s a total value for money machine considering its price point.

We would suggest the AMT automatic transmission version, which has precise gearshifts, offers a tremendous hassle-free drive in cities with dense traffic conditions, and includes the hill-hold feature, which can come in handy. This is also a suitable upgrade from a hatchback for people who want the comfort of a sedan at a reasonable price point. All in all, the Dzire is a very tough competitor in the segment and is not to be missed by auto enthusiasts. This car can be bought by anyone from a family man to a car enthusiast. It’s the perfect car that fits everyone.
