The very popular model from Maruti Suzuki, the Omni, has been an iconic four-wheeler because it is quite an old model that still sells in the country today. The Omni model has two versions – the family variant and the cargo variant. Both variants have a boxy exterior and a flat hood. The family version has a sliding door on both sides, with each door having a window at the center. The cargo version has a sliding door on the left with no windows. Both the versions have a rear boot lead.
There have been some cosmetic add-ons to the model in recent times. The box-shaped body looks impressive with a rear hatch tailgate, well-placed headlamps, front indicators integrated with the front bumpers, huge rear windscreen, front mid-engine, tail lamps with a clear lens rear-wheel drive. One of the latest features is that the van now has enhanced cabin space. It is also available in five different models - Omni 5-seater, Omni 8-seater, Omni Limited Edition, Omni Ambulance, and Omni Cargo. There are also four colors to choose from – Superior White, Silky Silver, Fantasy Black, and Pearl Blue Blaze.
The pricing of the Maruti Suzuki Omni starts at INR 2.83 lakh with the base variant. The top-of-the-line variant costs INR 2.84 lakh. The Omni is the only model being sold in the mini-van segment and hence is in great demand with no actual competition from any other brand or model. Although the Maruti Eeco is a competition of sorts, Omni is a leader in the segment.
Very suitable for city driving.
Highly relevant for use for big families, especially the eight-seater model.
Ideal for use when transporting goods because of space availability. The commercial model has a huge boot space.
Quite affordably priced, and the maintenance costs are also drastically low. In many cases, drivers can repair any small issues themselves. Most parts of the car are easily available at cheap prices.
Easy availability of petrol and CNG variants.
The average mileage of the car is pretty good.
Extremely successful as a commercial car, cargo mover and an ambulance.
One of the cheapest mini-vans, the Omni scores well on all parameters of engine performance, comfort and space, fuel efficiency, and design features. The car has been a superhit within the commercial segment, especially as a taxi and an ambulance, since it has an impressive mileage.
In the early years after launch, the car was also a big favorite, with bigger families having more than four members. Affordably priced at INR 2.83 lakh, with low maintenance costs and readily available spare parts, has made Omni the preferred choice for the lower economic strata of India.
Omni is also best suited for driving within city limits with its fuel efficiency and mileage. The huge space availability, be it the 5-seater or 8-seater, and the choice of variants – petrol and CNG- has helped keep the model afloat in India's very competitive automobile sector through the last nearly four decades.
One aspect that the Maruti Omni seriously lacks is security, especially when the automobile segment has evolved tremendously in the last few decades in terms of safety features. Today, security is one of the biggest aspects for a buyer when considering different car models. Most of the other cars in the segment are well-equipped with robust safety features powered by modern technology. The Maruti Omni has not had a major revamp ever since it was launched, which is why even its overall look and feel are quite outdated.
