Maruti Suzuki is well known for ruling the roost in the small car segment since the early 1980s. Ironically, they have completely lacked any presence whatsoever in the luxury car segment for all these years. Maruti Suzuki has wanted to get a foothold into the luxury segment as well, and so they’re finally here with the Kizashi.
The Maruti Kizashi offers only one petrol engine option. Under the hood lies a 2.4 L (2393 cc) engine. It produces 178 bhp and 230nm of torque, mated to either a 6-speed manual or six-step CVT gearbox.
It comes with Paddle-Shift for auto-version. Feels very planted and strong especially at high speeds. It feels like the luxury car that it’s meant to be. It is mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-step CVT gearbox.
It comes equipped with ABS and ESP, 6 Airbags, Central Locking, Hill Assist and Traction Control.
Its unmistakable Suzuki design language is evident from the first look. It has a certain flair to it. The front has a large open mouth kind of typical honeycomb grill. You get a good-looking car with the bonnet creases flowing in a singular line.
The side profile shows Kizashi as a well-proportioned car and the rear is nice too. The C-pillar flows all the way down to the Spa tail-lamps.
The interiors are much-much more upmarket than the usual Maruti fare. Some of the bits of plastic could have been better. The flat central console with integrated lights and some splashes of chrome give it some sportiness.

Not suitable for city driving conditions
This car shows you what Suzuki is really capable of. Compared to cars they make in India, this is something different - in terms of build quality and refinement levels, it is so stellar that it’s almost unbelievable. It has a refined aura to it.
Suzuki designed this car to be more driver-oriented rather than just being comfortable. City drivability is decent enough. When you drive this car in the city, you will realise that the clutch is heavy on this car. But the gearbox is slick and offers a comfortable switching experience.
The fuel economy is somewhere between 9-12 kmpl. The steering wheel is big, has cruise and audio controls. Audio quality is surprisingly very decent. The front seats get an electrically adjusted memory function. You can save up to 3 settings. The co-driver seat is also electrically adjustable and the seats look very comfortable. The dashboard design looks very good indeed. It has an attractive-looking design with a dual-tone black and beige treatment. There are a lot of hard and shiny plastics, with silver inserts.
Now compared to Skoda Laura, when you get inside Kizashi you get that feel of a premium car. It comes equipped with features like climate control, leather seats, electronically adjustable front seats, 6 airbags and ESP while Laura has none of these to offer. Space-wise the Kizashi feels a lot wider and with the beige interiors, you get a much more roomy experience inside the cabin.
The Skoda Laura is really a pleasure to drive because it’s punchy. While the Kizashi doesn't have that punch or throttle response, it is still pretty quick. It's got a strong top-end so it cruises really well. So if you can't quite afford the Honda Accord or Skoda Superb, then the Kizashi makes the perfect luxury car for you.
