Known internationally as Splash, Maruti Ritz was launched in India in 2009. The hatchback got a facelift in 2012 that pushed its sales phenomenally. However, the popularity of Ritz started to suffer after some time, pushing the company to stop production entirely in 2016.
The model had two options of engines. One was the petrol option of 1.2 litres, and the other was the diesel option of 1.3 litres. The capacity of the K-series engine was in the range of 1197 cc to 2400 cc. The power metrics of the model were 85.80 bhp at 6000 rpm. The car had four cylinders with four valves per cylinder.

Back in December 2016, Maruti Suzuki, India's much-loved car company, formally stopped producing the car model called Maruti Ritz after selling almost 4 lakh units. The sales of the car continued even after because most dealers had a good inventory of the car model. The Maruti Ritz was replaced by Maruti Ignis, launched later that year.
It was one of Maruti's first car models to feature the boomerang rear of the tail hatch with premium boot space. Some of the key features of the Ritz revolved around the locking and security system. With an engine immobiliser, the model had a central locking system, operable by keys. The model was also equipped with a speed-sensing door lock system with a child safety lock. Some of the other critical features of the car model include manually-operated anti-glare mirrors (internal only). The interiors were primarily dual-tone with a 60:40 split rear seat. The headlights and tail lights are halogen-based with a multi-function display. The colour options available for the Maruti Ritz were Bakers Chocolate, Silky Silver, Superior White, New Granite Grey, New Mystique Red, and New Breeze Blue.
The last recorded price of the latest version of the Maruti Ritz was Rs. 4.5 lakh (ex-showroom). The price range within India was between Rs. 4.3 and Rs. 6.58 lakh. The engine of Ritz was powerful and worked fabulously coupled with the five-speed manual transmission system. The gear system had a precise and short throw while the steering wheel had an even weight, making the car a favourite among city dwellers.
Another good feature of the car was its interior features like the low-fuel level warning, digital clock system, central locking system, child safety system with multi-function display of the trip meter.
It is a no-nonsense car, way cheaper than comparable models like Swift with the same engine type. The model offered safety and a smooth ride with power steering, seat adjustment facilities, engine immobilizer, and child safety locks.
The car model did not have many modern safety features like anti-lock braking systems, electronic brake-force distribution, and brake assist systems. Even basic safety features like seat belt warning, child seat anchor points, or airbags were missing too.
Many customers complained about the mileage, so even though the car was good for city drives, it did not perform too well on highways.
The interiors of the car were average with the scope that it could be better. Also, the diesel version had a loud noise that was a bit irritating. Plus, the car had no audio control or music system pre-fitted in.
The Maruti Ritz was a well-loved car model when it was launched. Indians much appreciated the unique design of the car exterior; however, due to some reason, the popularity took a hit a few years later. So much so that the company had to stop the production instead of the Ignis. On the global front, Ritz was replaced by the Maruti Celerio, though the automobile company sold both Ritz and Celerio in India for some time.
The good features of the car were the safety features like a child lock system, engine immobiliser, and central locking, which were some of the pros of the car. In combination with the steering and the 5-speed manual transmission, the powerful engine worked well on the road and made driving easy.
The boot space has also been well appreciated all across, while the short and precise throw of the gear ensured safe driving. The tall body design, however, had some issues with the corners featuring body rolls. One big con of the car was its lackluster interiors. With most of the other cars in the same segment offering smart connectivity features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, many customers took a backseat; as a result, the car model suffered. The car did not have four-way adjustable seat features for the driver or the front passenger seat on the comfort parameter. With no parking sensors, headlights, or ignition on reminder or steering adjustment, it was challenging to drive around.
