Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG summary

The Mercedes SLS was significant since it was the first time Mercedes-Benz revealed official data about the automobile at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, although the final product wasn't yet available. In truth, there were no plans to exhibit the car in Switzerland. The firm published SLS AMG prototype photographs while it was still being tested. But, without a doubt, the clever marketing technique of revealing that the SLS AMG would be arriving soon increased the anticipation.

The car's innovative body-shell design, known as a space frame, would give it exceptional strength. A low-slung engine with a maximum output of 420kW and 571hp at 6800 rpm drives the efficient vehicle. The car's light weight gives it a high power-to-weight ratio, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds. The V8 engine was designed to make the SLS AMG among the most formidable racing vehicles ever, at a top speed of 325 km/h.

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is the first supercar created wholly in-house and constructed entirely from scratch by the Mercedes' AMG performance department. The supercar features Gullwing doors, influenced by the Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing from the 1950s. The classic original 300SL doors were created to answer a problem: the spaceframe chassis didn't have enough room for regular doors.

The last recorded price for the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is 2.54 crore, and the vehicle comes in petrol only, and the transmission is automatic. The car was discontinued in 2014.

The premium automobile brand Mercedes came up with the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is a front-mid-engine, two-seater, limited production grande tourer designed by the Mercedes-AMG department of German automobile Mercedes-Benz with David Coulthard's guidance. The vehicle is the successor of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, and Mercedes-Benz defined it as a "spiritual successor to the Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing", owing to its inspiration. "Super Leicht Sport" is the abbreviation for SLS (Super Light Sport).

There's only one variation of the SLS AMG and all of the variants are set to Automatic. Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, Mercedes-Benz Maybach GLS, Lexus LX, Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), Mercedes-Benz G-Class, Mercedes-Benz AMG GT, Porsche Panamera, BMW 7 Series, Maserati Levante and BMW 7 Series are among the models contesting against the SLS AMG. The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is priced at 2.54 crores, and the petrol model of the SLS AMG costs 2.54 crores.

The absolute finest of SLS's superb attributes was its handling. The SLS AMG is a great sports vehicle. There is an absence of body roll, and the handling is accurate and dependable. This car has the same "master of the road" feeling as the Lamborghini Huracan and the Ferrari 488, both of which were released years later. The handling is precise and well-connected. The acceleration is enormous, and it seems every bit as quick as the current batch of supercars, which it isn't. When you put your foot down, you get a rocket ship sensation.

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG PRO’s & CON’s

  • Things We Like
  • Things we don’t like

The SLS AMG is a very well-built automobile that is noted not only for its incredible handling but also for its dependability. It has a high resale value and is lovely.

It succeeds in delivering performance, flair, and craftsmanship as a modern take on the 300SL Gullwing.

It's a collector's car with an appreciating value, a NA 6.2 L V8, gullwing doors, and an understated appearance for a supercar till you open the doors.

Its value hasn't depreciated. Not a single dime. Not a smidgeon. It is in stark contrast to any other AMG Mercedes vehicle, which depreciates quickly.

The car has a good exhaust note.

The SLS AMG was a little 'extra'. The enormous 6.2-litre V8 engine was notoriously thirsty.

The Gullwing doors were inconvenient, and the tail end was oversized.

The SLS AMG was a car for the young, one that gave you an adrenaline rush as soon as you sat down. However, this same trait was a massive drawback since the owners were taken aback each time they ventured into city traffic.

Because of its location and proximity to the ground, it is not easy to reach and exit. Reaching high up for the door is a bit of a pain. Also, such a large hood may take some time to adjust with your driving.

The SLS has an early dual-clutch automatic transmission, which feels bumpier than today's modern ultra-smooth transmissions.

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG IMAGES

The SLS AMG is a beautiful car, yet most reviewers agree that the back perspective is the least attractive. The proportions are comparable from the long hood and short front overhang to the upright windscreen, contributing to the SLS' comparatively high drag coefficient and EPA fuel efficiency rating of 14/20 mpg city/highway. Mercedes-Benz vehicles often have a Cd of less than 0.3. With a wider greenhouse than the fenders, the SLS is similarly larger than the original SL. Whether you're wedged into the conventional gullwing or not, it's a less-distinct design that you'll soon enjoy.

The traditional position of placing the airbags above the windows was not an option; that's why the automobile contains eight airbags, including the front pair, two knee airbags, seat-mounted side-impact torso bags, and side curtains that deploy upward from the doors. Pyrotechnic fasteners — essentially explosive bolts — secure the door hinges. The hinges pop out after a few seconds if the car rolls and lands on its roof, allowing the doors to be lifted out sideways.

An electronic stability system with stability control and antilock disc brakes are included as standard safety features. Compared to the McLaren SLR, the SLS appears to be a bargain. The SLS, like most cars in this class, rides very comfortably. It's bearable, although other competitors are more accommodating without compromising performance. For a front-engine automobile, it carries some weight over the back wheels. The added weight in the front and rear is 47/53 per cent. Overall, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is an exciting supercar to drive.
