With nearly 49 years of legacy behind it, Jeep halted Cherokee production in 2023 — but the story is far from over. Now, the brand is set to revive this iconic nameplate, teasing the all-new 2026 Jeep Cherokee in a bold and modern avatar. It will be built on Stellantis' advanced STLA Large platform, which could support multiple powertrains, including hybrid, petrol, and EV.
The 2026 Jeep Cherokee exterior features rectangular-shaped LED headlamps with LED DRLs, the signature seven-slot grille, a cladded lower bumper, and a honeycomb-style air intake grille for a sportier look. Along the sides and rear, highlights include a muscular shoulder line, roof rails, flush pull-out door handles, wheel arch cladding, rectangular-shaped taillights, and a reworked bumper.
The next-gen Jeep Cherokee will come equipped with a hybrid powertrain. Additionally, it is expected to get a petrol engine, anticipated to be the brand’s 3.0-litre ‘Hurricane’ twin-turbo inline-6, which churns out 556PS and 707Nm of torque. However, for this model, those figures are expected to be toned down.
There is speculation that a Jeep Cherokee EV could arrive, featuring a setup similar to the Wagoneer S Electric, which has a 100 kWh battery pack and two electric motors producing 608 PS. However, if the EV does launch, those figures are expected to be slightly reduced for a balanced performance.
The upcoming Jeep Cherokee production will take place at Stellantis’ Toluca Assembly Plant in Mexico, alongside its siblings like the Compass and Wagoneer S.
The new Jeep Cherokee is anticipated to make its global debut later this year, likely at the Los Angeles Auto Show. However, an India launch is unlikely at this time. This SUV is anticipated to come in three trims: Sport, Latitude, and Limited.
