There had been a lot of chatter around Honda India’s first electric car being based on the Elevate SUV. However, recent media reports suggest that the brand’s first EV in India might not be the Elevate EV.
As per a recent press conference held by Honda Cars India, its first electric car will be a BEV, which will be a completely new product, and details about its body style aren’t out as of today.
Honda has plans to launch its first electric car in India in the next financial year. It will be one of the three new cars that it plans to launch by 2027.
Along with pure EVs, Honda is strongly banking on hybrid technology, and aims to launch new hybrid cars in India over the next few years. It aims to build a mix of petrols, strong hybrids, and EVs.
While the carmaker has registered decent sales from CNG versions of the Amaze and Elevate, it does not see CNG as a long-term bet and does not plan to invest heavily in the same.
Globally, Honda has recalibrated its plans to focus on hybrid vehicles more than electric ones, with plans to launch 13 new hybrid vehicles based on its next-gen technology, starting in 2027.
