Mahindra is set to launch an all-wheel-drive (AWD) version of its flagship electric SUV, the XEV 9e, to rival the upcoming Tata Harrier EV. The new AWD variant will be based on the INGLO platform, which supports dual electric motors for AWD capability.
The XEV 9e AWD is not expected to have major differences in performance or range compared to the current version. However, it may include off-road-friendly features like terrain modes and a transparent bonnet, similar to what is offered in the Tata Harrier EV.
Mahindra plans to launch lower variants of the XEV 9e equipped with the larger 79kWh battery pack, addressing growing consumer demand for extended range across more affordable trims.
Over 75% of bookings have been for the Pack Three variant of the XEV 9e and BE 6, indicating strong consumer interest in premium features and performance.
To ensure sustainable sales, Mahindra acknowledges the need to boost adoption of lower variants. Customer hesitation due to lack of in-person experience and test drives is slowing down decisions for entry-level trims.
