A recent spy shot has sparked speculation that the e Vitara may launch in India as the e Escudo, referencing the nameplate used for the Vitara in Japan. The “e Escudo” badging spotted on a test car suggests that Maruti may align its EV branding with the upcoming Escudo family SUV.
The Escudo name has already been trademarked in India and was earlier thought to be for a new SUV positioned between the Brezza and Grand Vitara. Now, the use of the name for the electric version hints at a broader Escudo family lineup in the future.
Maruti Suzuki has confirmed a launch event on September 3, 2025, though it hasn’t officially revealed whether it will debut the e Vitara, e Escudo, or the standard Escudo SUV. With conflicting media reports, the final confirmation is still awaited from the brand.
The India-spec e Vitara / e Escudo will come with two FWD powertrain options: 49kWh battery with 144PS, 189Nm and 61kWh battery with 174PS, 189Nm. Notably, the AWD variant available globally won’t be offered in India at launch.
Key features of the electric SUV include LED headlamps, 18-inch alloys, single-pane sunroof, shark-fin antenna, Dual-screen display, ventilated seats, 10-way powered driver’s seat, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, ambient lighting and ADAS.
