MG cars get cheaper! Rs 3.04 lakh off on Astor, Hector & Gloster post-GST update

MG slashes prices after GST rate cut

MG Motor India is passing on the full GST rate cut to its ICE SUV lineup, which includes the Astor, Hector, and Gloster. The tax rate, which was previously as high as 50% with cess, has now been reduced to 40%. That change alone brings prices down by as much as Rs 3.04 lakh, depending on the model.

New prices for MG Astor, Hector, and Gloster announced

With the GST benefit now in place, the MG Astor is up to Rs 54,000 cheaper. The Hector gets an even steeper cut of up to Rs 1.49 lakh. And for the Gloster, the price drop goes all the way up to Rs 3.04 lakh.

When do the new MG prices take effect?

While brands like Nissan, Kia, Renault, and Toyota plan to roll out the revised pricing from September 22, MG India has already put the new rates into effect starting September 7, 2025.

What are the new GST rates on cars?

GST on small cars has been reduced from 28% to 18%, cutting tax by 10%. This applies to cars under 4,000mm with petrol engines up to 1,200cc or diesel up to 1,500cc. Larger cars over 4,000mm were previously taxed at 28% plus up to 22% cess, bringing the total close to 50%. Now, those with engines over 1,500cc are taxed at a flat 40%.

GST on electric vehicles remains unchanged

While GST rates on ICE vehicles have come down, electric vehicles remain unchanged at 5%. No revisions there.
