BMW India plans to introduce more affordable variants of the all-electric i5 sedan by the fourth quarter of 2025. Currently, the i5 is sold only in its top-spec M60 xDrive trim priced at Rs 1.2 crore (ex-showroom).
Two new variants — the i5 eDrive40 (RWD) and the i5 xDrive40 (AWD) — are expected to arrive. Both use the same 81.2kWh battery as the M60 but differ in power and performance specs.
Take a look at the performance and range figures — i5 eDrive40: 340PS, 430Nm, up to 582km range, 0–100kph in 6 sec. i5 xDrive40: 394PS, 590Nm, up to 538km range, 0–100kph in 5.4 sec.
The eDrive40 is likely to be priced between Rs 85 lakh and Rs 90 lakh, placing it between the BMW i4 (Rs 72.5 lakh) and the i5 M60 xDrive (Rs 1.2 crore). This positions it well in a largely untapped luxury EV sedan space.
The new variants aim to widen BMW’s electric sedan offerings and attract more buyers in the luxury EV space. Meanwhile, the brand is also preparing to launch the 2nd-gen 2 Series Gran Coupe with petrol and diesel options.
